I was sitting in a cloaked Buzzard some 300Km off 3-1 POS in Fat when a red dictor warped in. I said ô1 redö at 3-1 POS in Fat. The Team Speak comÆs were ôI donÆt see any reds here.ö A little later a large fleet starts to slowly appear on the same POS. People, already in said 3-1 POS grid said they could see no such fleet.
I later warped to station where no reds were visible. I was able to see the station. I was attacked and killed there by an unseen enemy. Station instant loads. Reds didnÆtà. Hmmà.
The point: If large structures like POSes and Stations are visible when there is lag, but the enemy is not then there is a HUGE advantage for the attacker. They can warp in, go into siege mode, and start to attack a POS without worry of reprise or lag.
Why doesnÆt lag matter to a capital fleet? Becauseà A Dread can warp in, lock a POS, open fire and wait out the lag. POS dead. Lag doesnÆt matter because there is not much communication required between client and server to take these actions. Lock->Fire->Wait. Lag? No problemà Client updates 10 min later and you see the POS is gone. One point for the Dread Pilot.
However, the fine maneuvering required of defense pilots and locking of small/multiple targets is greatly affected by lag: much greater then that of a capital fleet. Lock (if you can find the same target that everyone else says they can see on their scanner), Fire and wait. Maneuver? Warp? Did you hit? Did they warp? Are they dead? Were they really there or was it a remnant of the last ôupdateö to your client? Well, wait 8 minutes and you will find outà
I see neither game play nor purpose in this.

Yes, we were beaten by superior tactics and skill. Lag effects everyone equally, so no one was at a disadvantage.

lag happens,
both sides have used it at one time or another. Only thing that can be done is to deal with it day by day, no point whining. -------------------------------------------------

I dont quite get your point but I laugh especially when people like goons etc. complain about lag when they are famous for it. Your "team" brought the majority numbers to cause the lag in FAT as stated in the other thread 500vs300.
But on a more serious note, this game sucks, we all know it but keep playing these "fleet" battles anyway knowing the game cant handle it. You got no choice but to work with what you got I guess. FC's have to work the "lag" factor in their tactics, and alot of time use it to their advantage if possible. _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

ôWar is not the dreadful end to all things as mankind fears. Conflict brings balance to nature as it adapts, mutates, and transforms itself into something stronger than before. Mankind is the master of nature because we can choose those mutations on our own accord. We can accelerate the inevitable dominance of a species. Through war, we can make ourselves stronger at the time and place of our choosing. War is not hell, far from it. War is beautiful. War is divine.ö - Grand Admiral Mekioth Sarum, excerpt from a commencement speech to Paladin graduates of the Imperial Academy, 23215 AD |
