Hey All,
I'm buying myself one of these gamer keypad things and wanted to ping the EVE community to see how people are using it.
Here's the Product Page at newegg and a PDF link to the manual.
Specifically I'm interested to know how you're using EVE with:
The 14 buttons on top The thumb button The wheel The direction pad The Big Orange Button.
Thanks!

I have one, but I haven't set it up yet
Anyway, this is my intended setup and some comments on it :
The 14 keys will be mappen to F1-F5, alt+F1-F4 etc for easy access to the corresponding slots.
The wheel will probably not be in use - in fact, they should have just put another key there instead imo. It's positioned to be moved by the index finger, but the size and resistance seems to be better suited for the thumb imo. Perhaps this wheel could be set up to increase/decrease the speed of the ship?
The orange button is freaky - 1 mm push distance, wtf? I suppose it could be used for ts, but I have a good button for that on my mouse already.
The thumb button will probably not be used, it doesn't feel very stable tbh and it's too far from the other keys so I can't press it and still keep the hand in a position where i can reach the rest in a comfortable way.
The direction pad is also non-optimal imo. Its position is slightly wrong, and tbh I'd probably have preferred something a bit more like the pad on the controller for the 8 bit nintendo.

My setup was going to be:
Top row keys - weapons, in groups of 2 maybe Mid row keys - first 5 midslots, have to rearrange some active modules here Low row keys - first 4 lowslots.
Thumb key, reload weapons
I was hoping to be able to use the direction keys to scroll through targets...
Maybe I'll post here once I get a good setup going. --

I used this alot in DAOC. It allowed me to set up so I could push one button and get a main attack and a backup attack.
The macro program also allowed me to setup up to craft and I could leave my pc for hours and watch a movie while my little character crafted away.
The keypad is also god on games like mechwarrior or flight sims where you can use the force feedback joystick in one hand and the nostromo for secondary controls and speed adjustment.
Very fun little keypad that I've enjoyed for a few years now.

Nice idea actually :)

Afaik EVE doesn't support switching between targets by pressing keys, but I haven't actually tried it... would probably be useful if possible...

I'm going to have to research this myself unless someone from CCP actually stores this data somewhere: what keys/actions are most frequently used in EVE?
My best guesses at the moment are f1-f8 (obviously) and reload weapons. After that are probably navigation controls then armour or shield repping.
Of course that's veering dangerously close to HCI research and that sounds too much like work ;-) --
