Hey,
A long time ago there was talk about going past the 8 8 8 max slot design, the last real talk about it I remeber was that the new combat-titans (or whatever they're called ;p non-empire titans) might end up going past that restriction. Obviously it didn't work out ;p though the topic started long before then.
I'm not exactly sure where it would fit in too have more then 8 slots, but I'm still curious. Whatever happened too increasing the 8 8 8 slot design? Would it require some massive recoding or something? And also is there any plans too go ahead and try and break the 8 barrier again?
REMEBER: I DO NOT EXPECT/WANT THIS TOO HAPPEN. I am curious as too what was finally decided and why ;p
Thanks!

It ain't broke, please don't ask them to 'fix' it. Every time they decide to fix something that does not scream exploit or bug they only succeed in breaking it.
Case in point, the current 'fix' on SiSi... increasing the size of modules (creating an instant & economy destroying nerf on looting).

Welp indeed. anyway...
I think the reason it hasn’t changed is because there are few possible fittings where anything beyond 8 slots would be appropriate or even not overpowered.
Titans could probably get away with having say 10 slots for a tank i guess, but 10 slots of a BS if they could all be filled with reps/hardeners would be insaneeeee
As for more highslots, it seems that CCP has found a workaround solution to that in the new T2 BS Marauder class ships, the way it looks at the moment is that they have half the number of guns but either a 100% damage bonus or a class specific siege module, which allows more damage output from fewer guns and gives us a few empty highslots to play with.
IF they were ever to change it, i'd guess they would take the route of adding anouther slot type, like a "utility slot", for all those rubbish modules that we never fit otherwise, ie: "mmm do i fit a sensor damp or a target painter..." is hardly a question most of us have to deal with because some modules are just FAR more useful to have than others.

If anything, we should upgrade to a 4/4/4 max slot layout.

Originally it was for the "empire titans" which had serious slot limitations, I mean they were huge and **** and had 200-400k m3 cargoholds and 50million shields but 8 slots just seemed really small in comparison, and when they came out with the "combat" titans they were still gonna have summit like that but I guess the idea just went out the window. It most definately was not for your normal everyday average ship ;p
and wtf does welp mean? ;p

If I remember, from way back, the destroyers and BCs were supposed to do away with the 8-slot layout and have more when Exodus came about. Obviously this was scrapped.
While it could open up some possibilities, I don't think it's really needed at this point. Although it could be interesting, it would probably open up a can of unbalanced ships that would be far too detrimental to the game.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

It's "you're" by the way.
It does seem a waste of potential not to have the biggest ship class fill all 24 slots.

Maybe after the EVE gate opens we get some new Earth ships that have 10 slots as base. I dono why 8 was considerd as base in New Eden but I really hope my avatar dosent have 8 fingers on his hands.

To be honest, I'd love seeing Titans with 10 to 15 capital guns (non siege mode of course) - wouldn't that be an awesome broadside firing?
However, i believe CCP has stated that there are limitations within the current engine used for ship fitting that make it very hard to scale up, but rewriting that engine is somewhere on the to-do list... at the very bottom. I.e. somewhere near planetary flight and other "I wish!" projects
Another issue with more slots is the hotkeys though. If you had more than, say, 8 highslots, then you could not activate them all over the F-keys... because F9, F10, F11 and F12 are already used for other things ingame, such as the map!

They broke 8/8/8 a long time ago
Drone Bay is x/8/8/8 for Gallentees! x/[Race Hate] for other peoples.
And Rig Slots is like 8/10/10
And yeah.. ship bonuses.
