Pod pilots cite lasers lack of damage variance, and their heavy cap drain as the main barriers preventing Amarr ships being truly embraced by the pod. That is not to say that they don't have their place in the universe, Amarr ships hold a long standing tradition of having incredibly tough armor tanks, and a bottomless capacitor (designed to sate the likewise bottomless hunger of lasers). Some pod pilots have had success with a certain Amarr Battleship by fitting hybrid weapons, or even projectile weapons to get the damage variance they need while dedicating their capacitor solely to armor tanking. But alas, it seems that the scientists of the Amarr are as closed minded as their leaders and seem unwilling to change their designs concerning lasers. That being said, why do I have >8.0 standing with the Amarr Navy...?

As far as ships are concerned, Amarri and minmatar ships tend to be the least favored due to their problems (damage variance, and skill intensive respectively), whereas the caldari ships are often the most favored (missiles are the easiest weapon systems to master) If you want unique, fly Sansha. Spiky balls of death. Sadly, they're cost prohibitive. Don't ask "which is most unique," but instead ask "which is most pleasing to the eye." In that case, the Amarr come in first, and the caldari in last. It's all about ship symmetry, and the gallente and caldari are horribly lacking in that regard for smaller ships (though the gallente are second in the looks department in my opinion). Most Amarr players are a little on the older side (2 years or so) while Minmatar have beccome massivly popular in the past year and a bit. So, at the BB level, Amarr are still more popular because of the age/skill braket while in the smaller ships, minmatar are popular. EvE is beholden to FOTM cycles too I guess. Shame. I remember when Minmatar were rare, now we are a dime a dozen.
