I know that magnetometric sites drop T2 rig BPCs and T1 rig components, but I was wandering if it is possible to get T2 rig components through exploration, and if yes in what kind of sites.
I usually run magneto and radar sites in lowsec and I haven't found any T2 rig component. Is the situation different in 0.0? And what about encounters (cosmic anomalies) in lowsec, do they drop some T2 rig components? And in 0.0?

AFAIK, around 1% (maybe more) of the salvage material drops in exploration should have been T2 components... at least from the "better" arc/sal spots. I'd just say you had a bad run of luck so far.
Heck, even salvaging T1 player ship wrecks is known to drop T2 components occasionally (again, assumed about 1% chance or less for components to be T2 instead of T1). T2 player ships just have a much higher chance of dropping T2 components.
P.S. No idea of the ACTUAL chance, but again, AFAIK, it does exist. _

Deepspace mag sites drop t2 rig salvage, but very few, like 1 in a can or so, sometimes

By "deepspace" you mean 0.0? Or lowsec?

This is one of the rare cases where you better look for Unknown sites. A former corpmate of mine told me that he salvage the faction spawns he get there. It seems they drop some Tech 2 Parts, even in highsec.
Last time he got parts worth 50 Million from two Sansha Frigs.

Edited by: Iris Lyania on 09/10/2007 15:28:44 You can find T2 salvage parts as well by salvaging faction spawns (Dread Guristas, . . . ) in empire. Most of the faction ships from unknown sites drop T2 salvage.

I scanned out a Serpentis 3/10 plex in hisec and the last room dropped 2x Gisti mods and 3x T2 rig components.

I wonder... might it be because my salvage skill is only at 3?

Not in the way you mean. The salvaging skill only affects the difficulty of wreck/can you can access, and then the time it takes to successfully access it. But as long as the level is high enough for you to open the can in the first place, it won't affect the quality of salvage you get.
Hacking and Archaeology work the same way. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I thought as much, I remember the dev post that said it, but it is also true that I _never_ managed to salvage a T2 rig component. I wonder if the skill level, although not influencing the chance to obtain a certain piece of equipment, affects whether you can get that piece of equipment at all. For instance, couldn't it be that if your salvage skill level is not enough to salvage T2 ships you cannot get T2 components from any them? Just a thought....
Another thought: although the devs stated that archeology and salvage do not affect the likelyhood of drops from cans, I think they never stated that there is no skill that affects such drops. Might it be that some other skills (such as encryption methods, for instance) might affect the loot chance from professional sites?

Same experience: drone escalating plex (unknown signature) can give overseer with 2 or 3 dozens of t2 component at the 4th steps of the exploration. Those I found were in low sec (0,2 or 0,3).
