Hello Community.
I have been thinking this game could use more promotion to enlarge our current community. I believe more players would be better for all of us. What good a game if there are empty servers? No players means no ISKs to trade in-game.
I feel this game could use a bit more competitive game play. I am thinking that we the community could badger CCP to promote eVe through seasonal trophy and recognition. Here is the idea - eVe Pro-Gaming.
Split a year into 4 seasons. A season is a quarter of a year.
Each season will have prizes associated with the best players in the eVe community. Prizes could be from CCP or sponsored by companies like Intel, Microsoft, etc.
There are prizes for 2 categories - best killer and best trader. In each season, the best player from a category could win up to USD1000, a new gaming PC or equivalent.
At the start of a season, players will have their statistics reset. So throughout a season, players will have their ISK profits accrued and tracked. The best player with the most ISK profit will win the title of best trader.
For the best killer prize, CCP's killboard could assign points for players who had engaged in combat and won the fight. More points for solo fights and uneven odd kills like killing a battleship in solo with a T1 frigate would have the most accomplishment points. So the best killer will be a member of the community with the most accomplishment points.
During a season, CCP would show the best 20 killers and 20 traders in the game. That should promote healthy competitive game play, wouldn't it?
At the end, wouldn't adding professional gaming to eVe make the game more fun and attract more players into the game with seasonal promotions? --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

You really just don't get EvE, do you?
It's a sandbox game. That's the point. You don't need to give a "prize" to the 20 best traders; they get a load of ISK from being the best trader. That's already the metric they're measured on. Likewise the best killers hold/gain territory, get modules & cargo as loot, rack up the killmails or whatever. Again: that's how we know they're the best.
And given that only the most experienced players are likely to be able to compete in a contest like this, what on earth can it possibly do to attract new players?
Side-note: TQ seems to already have as many players as it can handle at the moment.
Think up a contest that will help clear out macroers and free up TQ resources for real players and I'll back you. Here's one suggestion: A community-funded prize for the player who manages to get the increasing carebearisation of empire rolled back a little. I'll chuck 10M into that prize fund.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

A ladder sheet to show the best 20 killers and 20 traders. At the end of a season, only 1 out of the 20 from each category will win the pro-gaming prize. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 11/10/2007 10:15:51 I am trying to talk about enhanced game play through e-sport gaming or pro-gaming competitive game play. I think it is a good idea though.

To win the above challenge, do 1 of the following:
KILLER: 1 goonswarm smartbombing MS. + the rest of goonswarm in alts flying into the MS with starter frigates. = infinite kills 23/7
TRADER: 1 BOBdude selling a shuttle back to bob at all the ISK that BOBlliance can muster. SOLD = massive trade profit. alliance contracts shuttle back, resell for same amount. = infinite trade proft.
You could write macros for this in about 5 mins, taking into account variations for item and number regarding traders.
ergo: bad idea. VERY prone to metagaming, and it's almost begging to be macro'ed

Absolutely, Malcanis.
Some stats from CCP to give us an idea of how we compare with the rest of the players every now and then is nice.
A Pro-tournament?? Yuk!
Plus the opportunities for fudging the results has to be immense. If you want your corp to have the best pvp-er/ trader/ whatever are we going to see corp ops set up to provide your chosen candidate with good trades/ easy kills? And that's after 10 secs thought
There's a thought - if it happens, should we have Top 20 scammers? Top 20 griefers?
Of course Jenny appears to be playing something called "eVe" so maybe she doesn't mean this game?

More promotion = good
Handing out prices to the same people over and over again = bad
If u hand out prices to the ' best' player in the game on only a limited number of directions, chances are a small group of players will win it again and again, so how will this promote eve? it will only look like favoritism to some people (not saying that it IS favoritism, i will just look that way if the same group of people constantly wins the prize)
And yes ur right i'm a bit prejudice cuz i know i won't be any of them, neither best trader or best pvp' er ever. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

I can never tell if the "new Jenny" is making posts like this just to provoke a reaction or if it is for real...
It is full of those litte "hints" that it can't be seriously meant.
And the consistant spelling of "eVe" that she/he it knows will provoke eveyone into a frenzy.
Oh well have fun the new Jenny.. I miss the old Jenny... selling characters ftl.
