I was joking around with a few bros from CnP and said maybe I would run for CSM chair. To my surprise an overwhelming number of people jumped at me with support and encouragement.
My final semester at college ends some time in april and I was considering running for CSM chair or some other position in the CSM were I can apply my skills as an internet spaceship expert.
However when I went to apply it gave me the following message..
"We appreciate your interest in the Council of Stellar Management but sadly you do not meet our criteria for candidacy. You need to possess an active and paying account and not be affiliated with CCP in any way. Free accounts do not give eligibility to participation in the Council of Stellar Management, yet they will be allowed to vote in the upcoming elections. Trial accounts are excluded from all participation."
I am obviously not affiliated with CCP in any way other then that I give them money each year for my subscription.
I already looked at the CSM evelopedia and did not find any clear criteria for joining. Sorry if this thread is in the wrong location can somebody point me in the right direction and tell me why I am getting this error? |

I can't find it, but are you not meant to have an account in good standing as well? I seem to recall reading something about that. So if you have had a ban / infraction or similar does that not make you ineligible? (I'm not convinced of this, but my memory and search skills seem to be performing poorly today) |

I have respect for EVE and a tool so I follow the rules.
As far as supporters I seriously doubt I would have ANY problems finding at least 100 people to outright and zealously support me.
My only issue is how to apply and where I can find a list of criteria and requirements. |

Best advice is wait until next dev blog. There is always an annoucement to inform players of coming election along with procedures. :-) Sorry, cant have my votes though, voting for Darius III. Good luck if you really going for it. Was gonna go for it, but I decided to let Darius take the spotlight. |

If you want to to make a difference in EVE it's being in CSM does nothing unless you're going to side with the "give me everything because I've subbed longer than you" crowd, I think another mass protest in EVE is in order.
Or maybe we could do something more fun like have everyone in high sec rush 0.0 gate campers in noob frigates? :D

You can't run for CSM directly. You first need to be an active, paying member of the "somethingawful" forums for at least three months (or shorter if you find a sponsor). Then you can apply again for CSM. |

You want to be a CSM chair?? I've sat on them and I can't imagine anything worse than having the CSMs sitting on me all day emitting various fermented shark gasses!
As to applying, it works best after the application process starts, sounds like its changing this year, I understand you have to submit a video of you and 50 eve players in RL in a giant human pyramid to be eligible.

Look over the recent minutes and you'll find the part where CCP wants to make some changes to the regulations when it comes to qualifying as a CSM candidate.
Likewise, a lot might change prior to the next CSM election, and the rules of today may not be the same by then.
EDIT: I'll just post that part of the minutes here. Give me a moment to pull them to text. |

The CSM Present: CCP Xhagen, CCP Diagoras
During this session CCP detailed three changes to the CSM project (all these changes will also be listed in a devblog that will be forthcoming in the buildup for the upcoming election). While these proposals are not very controversial as such, CCP felt it was necessary to include the CSM in the discussion and do this in cooperation with the council, rather than forcefully implement them.
The first change mentioned was that a candidate would need to demonstrate he/she had X supporters to appear on the ballot, where X is a number between 50 and 500. The proposed method of gathering these supporters is to write a nomination post on the Jita Park Speakers Corner and then count the number of supports the post received. If the candidate receives at least X supports, they appear on the final ballot.
The reasoning behind this is to reduce the number of candidates to a more manageable level, down from 70 to perhaps 30-40. (although CCP doesn't have a strong preference towards a particular number). The number of candidates can (and does) have an influence on voters, being presented with a huge list of candidates is intimidating and having to form an informed opinion about 70 candidates is daunting to say the least. CCP expressed the desire that the supporters' number should be meaningful without being crippling, and asked for feedback as to what a reasonable threshold might be. The CSM responded in turn that if (for example) a candidate cannot get the support of 50-100 people there is not much change of that candidate getting the 1500-2000 votes needed to actually get on the council. The CSM did however agree with CCP's concern that the 'little' guys could potentially be excluded from the race, i.e. highsec dwellers might not get the support they needed to be on the ballot.
The second change proposed was to drop the concept of alternate in the CSM, but only fly the top 7 available members to Iceland (instead of the top 9 as with the previous CSMs). If a voting needs to happen within the CSM, the top 9 members available at that time would perform that vote (the CSM white paper states that the minimum of 7 members are needed to hold a legal vote).
The third change proposed was changing the election system from the current form to a single transferrable vote (STV) (i.e. any surplus or unused votes are transferred according to the voter's stated preferences should their highest preference not need them or not make it in). The timeframe for this change would be the election in 2013 (thus, no changes would be made for the next CSM election).

Which means, the high sec puppet masters who want to control everything "recognise" that it may be difficult for certain parts of EvE to get noticed but then of course do nothing to make the process any more equal. Since, just because they confirmed the notion of inequality with CCP doesn't mean they will do anything to address the issue. And they say they are not corrupt?
