I finally made it into a Hulk and while it mines a hell of alot faster, I am definitely not ready to try tanking much of anythig in 0.0.
Currently I can barely fit the following: 3 strip l
(these are what i found locally and easy to get) small shield booster ll(<---this sucks ass) dominiation explosion dampening field cap recharger l survey scanner
2 mlu l
My main goal now is to get my skills up to shield tank the rats around me. ie. get a named small shield booster, get a eutectic cap recharger, replace the survey scanner with another named dampening field and then try and upgrade to mlu ll's and strip ll's
as currently setup, my cpu and power are damn near maxed. not sure yet if i have the ability to swap out the current modules. I have identified the following skills I need to work on just to add more power and cpu, can you guys see if I am missing anything and in what order I should learn these.
shield upgrades - @2 - 5% less power per level shield compensation - @2 - 2% less cap need for boosters per level energy management - @2 - 5% to capacitor capacity per level energy systems operation - @ 1 - 5% reduction in capacitor recharge time per skill level mining upgrades - @3 - 5% reduction per skill level in CPU penalty of mining upgrade modules engineering - @4 - 5% bonus to ships powergrid electronics - @5 - 5% bonus to ships output per skill level @2 means i have learned it to level 2
Thnx.....Z

Linkage this should have the info you need.
There is even an updated section on the Hulk and fittings for working/standing up to the rats in 0.0.
Also those skills you listed are a must to get to at least lvl 4.

I just looked over the guide again and didnt see anything specific like i asked about. Just this sentence: "You WILL absolutely need Electronics 5, and cap skills at level 4."
So back to the beginning for me.
Can anyone tell me if I am missing any skills in my list?
Thnx...Z

The standard tanking Hulk has the following mid and low slots:
Giisti-A Small Shield Booster - this is the key module (low fitting req, good boost) Eutectic Cap Recharger 2xFaction/named/tech 1 rat-specific hardeners
2xMLU (Tech 1 or named if you want to keep your tank)
This should fit with Electronics 5, Engineering 5 and a couple of levels in Shield/Energy/Mining Upgrades, but it will probably not fit with any rigs that reduce CPU or PG.
As for skills that will improve your tanking ability:
Shield Compensation - lvl 4 EM/Thermal/Kin/Exp Shield Compensation - lvl 4 Shield Operation - 4/5 Shield Management - 4/5 Energy Mangement - lvl 4/5 Energy Systems Operation - lvl 5 Hull Upgrades - lvl 4
One of the challenges with this tank is keeping your cap up while perma-running the tank. You may need to stagger your strips to ensure an even drain on the cap and keep it above the peak recharge rate.
I don't think there is a way (maybe with implants) to fit 2xMLU IIs with this tank, there is just not enough CPU.
Mine safe.

Well, for the fitting - it seems quite alright. with the t2 upgrades you probably end up with one t2 upgrade and a free low for a cpu module and t2 hardeners and stuff or you reduce the tank for one mediumslotmodule and fit for max yield.
regarding skills there are no shield skills which actually improve your tanking. fitting the modules and if you like t2 hardeners are the only stuff you need.
however there is something you can skill for. ccc rigs and energy management and energy systems operation do help keeping your tank alive.
dont forget - compensation skills are only for passive hardeners.

Wrong i'm afraid its 3% to active hardeners & 5% to passive.

The compensation skill only applies to active hardeners when they are switched off
To quote the skill -
To active shield hardeners: 3% bonus per skill level to Shield Thermal resistance when the modules are not active To passive shield hardeners: 5% bonus per skill level to Shield Thermal resistance
So, for active hardeners, the compensation skill isn't worth much unless, of course, you've forgotten to swich on your tank... again..
