Yes it would melt very low end machines but in all honesty i could get a better dx 10 card alot cheaper these days, once the ram cost drops (this is what makes the ú100 difference on the cards) they'll all be pretty equal.
It's also worth noting that unreal is being released soon too, and the engine is being scooped up by developers. Doesn't sound like much but that engine supports physics cards, and is being adopted by developers as a whole.
Gpu = pretty lights, cpu = ships and guns, ppu = explosions, debris and weapons, it's possible (in theory long term).
DX10/Vista is garbage. If CCP starts working on a new engine they should work with something more compatible
I will drop eve the day there is a dx10/vista only feature, and i bet many other will as well 'nuff said

Anyway getting fights akin to that tech demo would require a huge rework of the combat system as well as all the nice graphical upgrades which while fantastic pushes the past the limits of what current technology is capable of.

Would be great to see Eve's graphics at this level. But there is always the concern of having increased lag. Still, I'm all in for stunning graphics

To clear a few things up with DX-10 the current graphics cards out that support it (g-force-8800 ex...) are only first gen DX-10 cards. Right now there is only 3 games that utilize DX-10 Bioshock, Company of heroes, and lost planet. It probably wont be till late 2008 that we will see a graphics leap from DX-9 hardware to DX-10 hardware.
