Just curious, guys: how many of you are active or have been active on other forums? Which ones? I know some of you got your training elsewhere, as this forum isn't exactly the best place to begin honing your mad troll skillz.

When I was a kid i trolled a bit on TDZK forums "browser based game". Though most of my experience comes from Planetside. I was part of the GC(General Chat) group which is the off-topic forums there. Basically, it was an unoffical group of friends/allies that practically owned the forums. Half of us "including myself" were from 1 outfit "corporation".
Fun times, it was a much more friendly forum community where you knew almost everyone with a handful of people who came & went here or there. Practically the exact opposite here.

The actual WoW forums are much more fun to troll. They move incredibly fast, have a good number of suckers, and are pretty much unmoderated after 12a PST.
I'd say MMORPG and Gamefaqs are the trolling equivalent of Newbie Land. You don't need skill to get a flame thread going, just a general formula of "X sucks", with X being the name of the game board you're on.

Same with Killing Ifrit. Non-stop drama, e-peen wagging, constant kvetching... had some solid bits of information if you could wade through the endless garbage posts.
Since you're ex-DAoC, (I'm assuming. If you were trolling a board for a game you never played, that's pretty sad.) planning on playing Warhammer?

I rarely post on EVE-O these days; you will primarily find me on Doom9, with a regular but smaller presence at the CCCP forums and SHC, and a token presence at XKCD, TheDailyWTF, and KAA.

The Straight Dope Message Boards.
Finest forum anywhere, bar none. You can quite literally ask any question there and get it answered (usually by people who are experts in the field). The quality of responses is second to none.
They also do not abide trolls easily and they get run off in short order. Idiots do not last long either.
Sadly they went to a pay model a few years ago but at $15/year it is not too bad and well worth the investment (you can post a few times for free to give it a spin). Go lurk there...you'll see what I mean. Wish I had this forum when I was in school.

Hmm... started with Utopia forums (swirve.com), soon after that Antrophia, moved on a while later to CastleQuest2. Before you ask, all of them are browser-based text/combat games, almost MMOs if you want. Then straight to EVE _

My career as a froum warrior got started when I was appointed as Lunar Dawn corporation Diplomatic Liason. I know some of you are shaking your heads in disbelief, but it's true.
Aside from that, I've always liked a well reasoned debate IRL, but I prefer to debate with folk of reasonable intelligence... after all, it's pretty difficult to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
Mainly I confine myself to OOPE as I am not one of the movers or shakers in-game.
Even if I did have information on decent set-ups for ships, I'd be buggered if I'd share it with the EVE community at large so I can face my own set-ups at gate camps, so I don't bother with that section of the forums either.
I make most of my ISK in-game trading, and again, I'm not giving anyone any clues there either; hence my lack of a presence on the trade sections.
I did do the 10 day "buddy-trial" of WoW after an impressionable friend started playing. I took one look at the official forums for the game, laughed my Wii off and never logged on to them again... Jesus Tonight! there are some morons posting there.
Only in EVE's OOPE forum have I found a clique of similarily minded, verbose, faintly intelligent folk with strongly held (if sometimes unreasonable) opinions on almost every concievable subject... ban-hammer notwithstanding.
I post largely for my own amusement, and that of anyone with a similar sense of humour.
I am also as pretentious as an art-school drama class and very, very fond of my own opinion. I realise that I am not alone in this in the EVE community.
My IRL hobbies include not being prosecuted for speeding tickets/parking tickets (legally) and writing "disgusted from Tunbridge Wells" type letters to council heads of department and senior Police officers, amopngst other folk.
Incidentally, if anyone gets a s172 after being flashied by a speed scamera in the UK, let me know and I'll point you in the direction of some free advice.

You better believe it. I've been a WAR fan for well over a decade so mythic/EA had better not **** it up too bad. I'll be able to join my old guild once again too cause I miss them real bad. Been playing some other mmo's and people just don't get the concept of teammanship and sportsmanship.

Heh, I start the thread and I don't even bother to post my trolling pedigree. I've been active on forums and message boards since the days of dialup BBSs. Most were small boards of no consequence. I've moderated or administrated several.
I wasn't really active on game boards until FFXI, when I put in serious time on Allakhazam FFXI and Killing Ifrit. For anyone that's not seen it, KI is a wonder to behold. I've posted, received, and witnessed flames on there that, if posted around here, would cause Wrangler to drive to your house and punch you in the face. I did a little time on the Irth Online forums before I surrendered and bought WoW.
I know I've said it before, but the game that is WoW has got nothing on the sheer fun of the board that is WoW General. Throughput over there is several thousand posts an hour. Someone's always kvetching about something, and it takes little more than a "you're wrong" post to start a war. Hooking suckers over there is like shooting fish in a barrel. With an automatic shotgun. Belt fed. I spent many a night at work stirring that forum with sadistic glee. I wouldn't say I was anywhere near legendary status; I had nothing on Scormus or Ghostwalka (think Chribba and DS). However, I'm still quoted in quite a few sigs. If you ask about me after 10p EST, you'll get instantaneous name recognition. Unfortunately, forum access required paying for that turd of a game, so I had to give up one of my passtimes. EVE-O and Fark work for the moment to fulfill my need for playing the forum game. WAR is on the horizon, and considering the number of WoWnoobs that plan on playing it, endless entertainment awaits.
DS: Isn't internet celebrity a strange thing? You've got several thousand people who know of you, at least a couple of psychos who want to have your babies, and in the next game, it'll mean nothing. Disappear for long enough, and you might as well have never existed. Just like the internet speeds communications, it seems to hasten the cycle of celebrity boom and bust. It's kinda like being a one hit wonder, but with less drugs and sex.
Tortun: they gave you mod rights @ GW? That's akin to finding a fox, giving it a bottle of rohypnol, and pointing it at your henhouse.
Mike D: Amen, brother. The legions of me-first gamers that have invaded MMOs make me sick. I've spent countless hours in DAoC, FFXI, WoW, and EVE doing things to further other peoples' goals and gameplay. I did it for the fun, and because I knew the persons in question would do the same for me. It's getting harder and harder anymore to find a good group of people who are really about betterment of the group over betterment of self. If only the CS noobs and B.net kiddies would play Halo and Halo solely, online gaming would be a much better place.

I see what you did there.
To be brutally honest, I don't care where you got your trolling pedigree.
So you enjoy shooting fish in a barrel on the WoW forums... well, that's a challenge isn't it? Why not pick a fight with a 5yr old kid in the street? It's likely to be as satisfying and will garner you a similar level of respect from the internet/EVE-O community.
Internet celebrity? Yeah, OK. Keep dreaming AB. I'd have your babies... but only braised with some faver beans and a nice Chianti... or possibly a Merlot, depending.
Asking a question just so you can answer your own post with a lengthy boast is fail of epic proportions.
I'm afraid that you leave me no alternative, this time I can't overlook this. Please hand in your Forum Warrior Union card at the desk and leave the building. Your stuff will be forwarded to your address.

No kidding. I don't know what server you were on but I was Mid Gally forever. I used to run arty raids back when 60 people went and one person would receive an item. And then I started doing dragon raids when the arty raids were ebing made super easy. Not once did I ever claim anything, I rolled for loot like everyone else. Heres the kicker: I was in the renegade avengers alliance and the leader always insisted we use the alliance webpage for raids and pvp setups and whatever else. He was strongly against the vn boards. Well my best friend had been asking for help on a few ML1 steps for weeks and no one would answer. He didn't want to post on the website because no one had been looking at it or replying on it (this was a problem for me too and many of my raids were scrubbed due to lack of people). So I offered to help even though I've never ran a ML1 but I had the general idea. So I make a post on the vn boards to get more attention to it. My GM (also another RL friend) was there and saw me do it and said nothing at the time. I dodn't bother posting on the alliance page. Anyways the raid came up and I thought I'd be a nice guy and announce in alliance chat. The alliance leader got all ****y about it and asked me why I didn't post it on the alliance board. I told him what was on my mind and he logged apparantly mad. My GM joined us on the raid and we got my friend atleast a few of the steps but he had to log in the middle of it (another story). Well later I guess the alliance leader talked to my gm and I was told to apologize to the alliance leader. I said I won't and my friend was banned from the guild and they created a special rank just for me so I had no rights in the guild whatsoever. Not to mention my gm stopped talking to me in RL (we still work for the same company too just in different areas). Well my friend n I were also part of the Regulators on Hib Igraine (gm is criminole, I'm sure you've seen the name in the lab, it's the guy that tells ya about the lab). We told them what happened and said we might be leaving the game and they were like 'nah, just come join us fulltime'. So we did. and the regs alliance page was open to all hibs so my raids went a whole lot smoother. I made more money in 2 months than I did in 3 years on mid. The regs would drop whatever they were doing and help us on whatever. Crim even got a guild beta for WAR but it had limited slots so I opted out for some of the more senior players to try it but I'm joining up with them as soon as the game is public. Anyways news of what happened to me and my friend in midgard hit the vn boards (by someone else mind you) and they got branded as bad guys and now very few outside guilds will join them on raids. I've been in LOTRO now and seriously it's a ***** trying to get a group for certain dungeons and the few times I have no one cooperates. Hell sometimes I dont think they even read the chat box which was one of my main rules when running a raid. I haven't even been on it lately and I'm seriously comtemplating shutting down my account. On a plus I may be getting more active in eve although my corp now consists of me and a alt.
