So I'm looking to arm my new Punisher, and I've been presented with many options. Laser, Railgun or Blaster.
Last time I tried Lasers I was able to bring down the enemies first two bars easily, but couldn't budge their third one no matter what I did. (They were drones.) So that's left a sour taste in my mouth on them..
But, what do you guys recommend?

Generally Amarr should use lasers as they get bonuses to laser cap use (eventually making them use less capacitor than hybrid turrets, E.G. rails and blasters. However, the "third bar" should have gone down the fastest. Are you certain you were ensuring the enemy wasn't orbiting you too fast and throwing your guns off? Or ensuring that you were remaining in optimal range? Guns can be a little hard for a newbie to use if you don't understand tracking or optimals.

Hmmmm... Yeah, sounds like tracking trouble to me. Pesky drones and their habit of orbitting close...
Having more experience flying Caldari frigates, I'd say that I obviously always favored railguns. Range is always nice when taking on NPCs, of course. Still, with lasers, pulses have nice optimal range, and superior damage to beams. Still, you'll get about 5 km more optimal out of those beams...

Your Lasers will do very well against drones, or should do. It seems likely that by the time you got to shooting their hull, they were too close for your guns to track. This won't be changed much by switching to Hybrid turrets.
The Punisher, as an Amarr frigate, is designed to use Lasers on it. There are only a few cases where fitting non-Laser weaponry to a Punisher is a good idea, and in general they are in PvP, and almost always Projectile weapons.
It might be a good idea to give us a bit of information about just what Laser it was you were using, as there is plenty of difference between the different types. I'd suggest maybe trying to fit Dual Light Pulse Lasers to your ship, as they will be able to track enemies a lot better than Medium Pulses or any beam Lasers.

Never use blasters for pve unless you are flying an enyo or a taranis. End of story.
You will spend more time getting in range than you will firing.
