Hi everyone,
I've been doing module invention and noticed that if you only use 1 run T1 BPCs you only get a one run T2 BPC as opposed to max runs turning into 10 run T2 BPCs.
Now I tried 10 ship invention jobs using max run BPCs(frigates only) and still only got a one run T2 BPC. I am wondering if I use just a one run T1 BPC how this will affect the result of the T2 BPC(if any).
The reason why I ask is because I am considering trying to invent some gallente HACs and waiting for max run copies to come out of the lab takes ages so want to see if I can get the same result using 1-runs only.

What Decryptor are you using?

There is a calculation involving the Production limit and max runs I think that comes up with a value that determines how many runs the t2 BPC has. Regardless, the result is that Ships invent to 0 or 1 run T2 BPCs, with 0 runs being upped to 1. So the result is always 1.
HOWEVER, the decryptor you use adds on this value so if you use the +4 run decryptor on a max run BPC, the T2 BPC will have 5 runs. On any other non-max run ship BPC, you would get 4 runs.

On ships use max or 1 run. On mods always use max runs.
If you use a decryptor that adds runs you will get 1 less run by using less than max runs, so it depends on if the max run print cost is worth the 1 run difference.

I usually use test reports since the others are a bit too expensive to use multiples of. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. Do you guys prefer to use max runs then?

Edited by: Admiral Nova on 15/10/2007 15:38:29 On Hulk invention, a max cov run BPC is worth enough that using a 1 run is preferable. It will also likely be the case for BS's. For ships with cheaper BPCs I use max runs.
I typically use the max runs decryptor so I get 90% of the runs anyway with a 1 run BPC.

This is simple enough.
Run a ship invention with T1 BPC = 1 run copy
Success = 0 T2 BPC + decryptor modifier
Run a ship invention with T1 BPC = MAX Runs copy
Success = 1 T2 BPC + decryptor modifier
Using Max run BPC's will give you 1 extra run on your T2 BPC every time, using anything less than a Max run will only result in an amount of runs equal to the decryptor modifier on the decryptor you are using, with a minimum success result of 1 (if you are using the zero modifier decryptor you still get 1 run).
If you run a ship invention without a decryptor you will only ever get a 1 run T2 BPC

thats not right!
if you use a t1 1 run bpc youll get a t2 1 run bpc. at least that's what came out on sisi
stats: stabber 1 run bpc output vaga 1 run bpc me -4, pe -4
no use to use max run bpc for ship invention

You can also use a 1-run bpc to invent cloaking devices but you need to use the decryptors. Why? because to build the R.DB to make 20 max-run copies of a cloak bpc takes 2 build slots for about 18 days. Better to use a 1-run plus the IAC decryptor imho.

Ooof, thick people... you ALWAYS get at least one run on the invented T2 BPC.
MAX-run T1 ship BPC -> runs = 1 + decryptor bonus Anything UNDER max-run T1 ship BPC -> runs = decryptor bonus (but no less than 1)
So, ALWAYS use 1-run T1 BPCs if you use no decryptor (or a decryptor with no bonus runs). IF you think one extra run would be of use with any of the other decryptors, then yeah, use a max-runs T1 ship BPC. In all other cases, stick with 1-runs. __
EXAMPLE : 1 run T1 BPC, +9 runs decryptor -> you get 9 runs (max-1) runs T1 BPC, +9 runs decryptor -> you STILL get just 9 runs max runs T1 BPC, +9 runs decryptor -> you DO get 10 runs on the T2 BPC _

No it is right. If you notice the last sentence in my statement you will see that I said IF YOU RUN A SHIP INVENTION WITHOUT A DECRYPTOR YOU WILL ONLY EVER GET 1 RUN T2 BPC. This is correct. I also stated that the minimum success result of any ship invention is 1, which is also correct. Of course my statements are assuming you are using a decryptor, which if you are doing ship invention without a decryptor than you are an idiot.
All I was pointing out is that the OP was asking if he would get more runs by using a MAX run BPC for invention, and I was breaking down how that worked. Learn 2 Read.
