Is there a decent setup for hunting high level NPC's in a Typhoon? I know that most people say Amarr ships are the best NPC farmers and they may well be right, but I am currently flying a Typhoon and want to take it out to 0.0 to hunt with.
There has been posts about Typhoon setups for shield tanking and so on, I was wondering if anyone has a anti-npc setup?

Edited by: pffoi rasse on 23/02/2004 11:06:54 What do u mean whit High NPCs? im hunting Crusier NPCS (30-75K) in my typhoon , working fine , got it boosted for defend, so atm im using 4x800mm, 4xHeavy launchers whit Heavy missiles (got some torpedos in backup in case of hard spawns) firring missiles until im in good range to use my 800 guns, then al let my 9Heavy drones out aswell, doing nice dmg togheter whit my 4x800. (using phased plasma)
Hi slots 4x800 + 4xHeavy launchers Med: shield ward , XL shield booster, Lif fueled AB, Shield AMP Low : 6xCap relays and a dmg modifier.
Not a wery good setup for longrange , but togheter whit the cap relays and XL Shield booster im sure not to take any armour dmg buy NPCs |

Never tried Typhoon so I couldnt suggest good NPC hunting setup but I can tell you that using missiles to kill NPC is a bad idea since you might spend more than you gain, focus on the 4 guns and use defender missiles and have few cruise/torps in cargo if needed. Spawn of the Devil

1400s very good for hunting. I even prefer 1400s over 425 rails. It's not about the ROF or Damage over Time.
Its about getting more damage from every shot of ammunition. A load of ammo on a Typhoon with 1400s can last you a very long time compared to the same amount on a ship with 425 Rails. You make the same kill for less ammo. Not only you save money but it's also more logistically convenient.

My recent setup for my beloved Typhoon:
High slot: 4x1400mm, 4xh50 (2 with defender 2 with cruise) I actually dont use the cruise missiles but a nice backup if everything else fails.
Med slot: 1x Large shield, 1x sensor booster, 1xtargeting computer 1x microwarp drive.
Low slot: 2x dmg mods. 2-3x reactor units. and the rest cap relays.
I have also a dronebay full of heavy drones but only as a backup..
But the most important setup is your gunnery skills.

Vip, any particular reasons for the mid-slot set up? Just bought a typhoon myself and was going to outfit it fairly similarly to you except for the mids.
Mine was going to be Large shield booster, EM Ward, Thermal Ward and MWD.
Just curious

Its quite simply because you have 4x1400mm..
A sensorbooster makes your range about 100km A tracking computer makes your 1400mm very effective
And with a Mwd and Large shield your dont need the extra shield tanking... your surposed to keep your distance not stay and fight.
The Npc rats should never come closer than 30-35km which makes a large shield more than enough.

1200 mm`s might be better suited for this task. You can fit more than 1400`s plus most cruiser npc`s orbit around 2km-20km which is well into their optimal range.
It`s almost impossible to maintain a good distance on npc`s now that they have mwd`s so you might have trouble hitting well with 1400mm`s.
That is if your hunting serious spawns and not the odd 30-50k ones.
6 cap relays and a dmg mod will do great, med slots XLSB, shield amp, 2 hardners (don`t think the afterburner is very useful against mwd npcs)

Well.. everyone has their own setup I guess.. But I can only share what i feel is the right setup for NPC killing.
But... If you have cruisers swarming at 2 km distance.. Then your not shooting well enough and should shield tank and remember your insurance!
The 1400mm are much better than the 1200mm guns simply because of their damage at long range. When I enter a killing field I always jump in at 60km or even to a bookmark further away.

1400s can hit well within their optimal range. I've killed NPCs lower than 2K with it, just as long as they don't perform a high speed orbit.
I have a tanked Typhoon setup, but my feeling is that this is not what the ship is intended for. A Typhoon is best for long range sniping and raider type tactics, just as the Rupture and the Rifter is.
Instead of hardeners, Xlarge boosters and shield amps, I would probably use a tracking computer, a signal booster and an MWD. Speed and distance are a defense of their own, and killing them before they kill you is another form of defense.
Against NPCs that like to fly close and blast, such as Serpentis, its better to just use the MWD to retreat and fly fast to open up some distance and snipe them. Tanking won't work because once they got you webbed, they will inevitably tear you up.

well true the 1200's would be a lot less load on the powergrid and cpu....but it wont really matter on cap usage since all the projectiles are so low in it.....id have to say go with the 1400's better range and damage will be more effective against 0.0 pirates :) but the 1200's are greate weapons and would also work well :)....id still go with the 1400's :P

I'd rather say he liked the advice, but the playstyle wasnt the correct one. Just because someone likes a certain ship doesnt mean it works for him. Remember Siddy and his tempest? He knew what he wanted many many days/weeks in advance worked towards the ship hopefully adjusted his skiils and found the perfect ship.
Others might like how e.g. the scorpion looks or his medslots, but when it comes to using it, they simply cannot put the ship into the role it was intended for. Whatever ;)

imo the Typhoon is a nice farming tool if utilised correctly, IŠve soloed everyhting up to 500k bounty rats (even though those are a bit tedious to take out).
I prefer something along these lines:
4x1400 4xh50 MWD, L Shield Boost, Sensor Booster, Cap Recharger. power diags, Cap relays and 1 damage mod.
with enough cap you can afford to keep shield boosting for a long time, as well as MWDing out of danger.
and PLEASE donŠt forget the huge drone bay you can use if the rats get too close.

I just wonder why people mount the MWD to get out of danger, instead of fitting a warpcorestab in low and an additional tracking Comp or hardener e.g.
After all the MWD cuts a lot of resources and the faster you kill the NPC the less threats you have to face over time :)

Edited by: Brukhai Khan on 27/02/2004 15:06:22 mainly because when the rats are on you, they swarm you. so youŠre webbed and scrambled by multiple ships, in which case a warpcore stabi doesnŠt do you any good. rather have extra cap to pour into shields while drones take out the ones that got too close.
Also, I donŠt think that killing them fast is such a big issue with rats. If you can sit there and soak missiles all day long, with the occasional MWD burst you can take as long as you want to kill them.

That's an understatement. I had to fire 5 volleys (of 6 1400's) at a serpentis orbiting me at 200m/s 20km out. With motion prediction 5.
