Hiya,
Just curious, this is not some stupid "which is best" question. I am just wondering what people use the most and what they use each ship for when it comes to the Typhoon, Tempest, and Maelstrom. I'm trying to figure out which roles each ship can fill the best. Setups are welcome as well, I would like to figure out what each of these ships are best used for however. Thx.

Typhoon : Very Good PVE BS (missiles and drones). Decent small gang PVP battleship. Fastest non faction BS of the galaxy (and smallest signature radius). very versatile.
Tempest : One of the few best battleship for fleet battle and massive engagement, using artillery. Very good fire power, fast and agile. In my opinion, it is the best. Best minmatar battleship for sure. Using autocanon, decent close range battleship for small groups or duel.
Maelstrom : Awesome active tanking, but only moderate firepower and the worst thing : Fly like a brick. Active tanking is usefull only for small gangs. Can be a good roaming BS, and a not too bad fleet battleship. Tempest is better as fleet BS. Typhoon as PVE BS ^^

Keep in mind this is from personal experience ...
I consider the Tempest the least versatile BB. It's great for fleet situations using artillery, and the decent number of midslots allow for a solo pvp setup. It suffers from a 5mid/6low slot setup, because it forces you to armor tank while only offering 6 lows.
The Typhoon : very versatile setup possibilities. It suffers from a dual weapon setup ( cannons and missiles ) but seven lows allow for a massive armor tank, or tank + damage mods. It's a classic close-range pvp knife fighter when configured with 4 ac's and 4 torp launchers. After Trinity it'll be a true beast. Because of the tank it's also quite useful for mission running. Keep in mind that since half your highs are missile slots, you NEED good missile skills. 175m¦ drone bay is a great bonus.
The Maelstrom : enormous alpha strike potential for fleet situations, and a great shield tanking bonus. It can be a real shield tanking beast, but this limits its solo pvp potential. Great in small gangs tho. The high tanking potential combined with good damage mods makes it great for mission running too. Still, you need very good gunnery skills to make those large arties work correctly, combined with excellent shield & caprelated skills.
The most important thing to remember is that Minmatar BB's all need good skills to work correctly. Ravens, Domi's and the like are much more forgiving in that aspect.

I think it's the Maelstrom some guy got to a 7.5k DPS perma-tank (of course, with all best officer mods + full Crystal implants). ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
