As the title says, i have a thanatos, i have t2 mining drones and can fit 5 drone control units. is it in anyway effective or should i just train for a hulk or somthing.
I mean if im attacked by a small group i can use fighters heavy medium or small attack drones to defend me. a hulk can not.
If i fit inertia stabs/nanos it can still hold a large enuf cargo, and i can be very agil in avoiding enemy.
Is this effective or plain stupid or what. any advice?

Dont use Carriers too mine. If all else fails, train Caldari Cruiser and use an osprey

They are AWESOME for losec afk jetcan mining.
Really....seriously.
I recommend Amamake belt 3-1 for the best in losec ores.

Yes. Carriers are excellent for mining. Just look at that cargo bay. Where did you say you live again?

A while back, carriers or really motherships where THE best miner there was. This was heavily nerfed by removing the ganglink(which sadly never worked as intended anyway). However, they are still quite potent - mind you not AS potent as the Hulks, especially not the carriers which probably cannot even outmine a covetor, which means it's really a battle between the carrier and battleship.
You do not ever want to be caught alone in a carrier. Ever. They are horribly easy to counter for a gang that knows what they're doing, and sadly, those gangs are quite common, and quite willing to remove your dear carrier from you. And when they do... well what can I say... its quite alot of Veldspar.
You are probably the first one to ever call a carrier or any other capital agile. Congratulations.
Having all this said, know that one of the most recognized players of EVE spends quite some time mining in a thanatos. Chribba. Yes, he is most known for his squad in Amarr, using the famous veldnaught, but he does also have a Veldsparmining Thanatos. I'm sure he can give you some advice. ;)

Indeed, they are EXCELLENT miners. Just fit your highs with Miners, Mids with all Gist X type Xlarge shield boosters, and lows with all Chelm's EANMs. I would be happy to provide escorting services for you of course.

I think there are some fish frozen in ice belts. Train for a barge and slap on the Ice Harvester I.

Please do tell us where you plan on mining with this carrier, and do make sure you fit your carrier with expensive modules. Oh, and fighters/combat drones are pretty useless for mining, and smartbombs might accidentally hit asteroids.

WHAT THE **** ARE YOU THINKING! You will lose this carrier almost instantly. There are many pirate corps who know how to remove n00bs from their new capital ship toys. Do yourself a favor and fly smaller ships and learn how things work.
Though honestly I wonder where these n00bs come up with the cash/SP to fly these capital ships.

From cheating. As in buying ISK/Characters for RL cash. But its cool....lets the rest of us pad our cap kills  .
