Anyone know how the new insurance changes work? All I can find is this...
'Insurance contracts are 6 weeks long now.'
Does the price cost of the insurance reflect the new length or will it stay the same price?

Prices will stay the same. It used to be two weeks, and than it was extanded to three weeks. So now three weeks, will be six weeks.
I find these patches are really extreme. If insurance is 6 weeks long, at least remove the 40% minimal insurance payout, or make it 20% or something.

Why?
If you can get a payout of 40% ship cost without getting insurance. Personally I think it makes more sense to extend the paid contract to 6 weeks because of the 40% payout thing. Makes it more worth the money. Why would you want to remove or reduce the 40% payout? Doesn't make sense.
There's nothing wrong with being able to afford new ships and participate in PvP events. It's the losing part that should hurt, not the wallet.

Edited by: Czar Marcus on 23/02/2004 21:21:54 It's the value of losing a ship that decides whether it will be painful. If no one loses any ISK, then it's not as fun :( It's like giving everyone a battleship - it's not as special when everybody has one.

1) If you purchase the full insurance policy for something like 50 million. That is fifty million you've lost so far without even getting into a fight..
2) Then if you blow up, you have to buy another ship with the insurance payout. Then out of your own wallet you have to purchase all the modules again. And again out of your own wallet you have to insure your new ship for 50million again.
How do you do this without losing isk?
I still don't see your argument. You lose plenty still when you blow up... And with the free 40% payout, you still end up having to spend more than 60 million for a new ship before modules. I don't get it.
If for some reason this new setup made it easier and cheaper to replace ships, which it doesn't really. All that would do is promote more battles. I don't understand why anyone would want less PvP to take place. That sounds like what your getting at to me.
It's a win win situation and your only complaining because it's different.

What is really needed is an option of total 100% cover for an extortionate amount that would replace with like for like everything fitted to your ship (excuding cargo with rare moduals (eg. not on market) replaced with the closest available).

But those expensive modules one pays for at player prices, are worth very little in comparrision via NPC pricing.

Bah you youngsters, in the old days there were no cloning or insurances, neither highways, and I remember times before autopilot and route setting, but you still do nothing but groan and fly around in easy to get battleships, in the old days you had to work for those, I'll tell ya lazy scumbags you aint worth the goo in your pod, heh.

I have to say I'm thrilled to hear about the increase in contract duration. Perhaps it's just me, but earning 33 million every 3 weeks just to keep my ship insured, while still having time to do things I actually ENJOY in Eve, while maintain some measure of a RL outside of Eve was becoming abit taxing. When 50k NPC's were easily chainable it wasn't so bad. But now I have to hunt/mine/haul for days on end just to make insurance payments which leaves little to no time to actually enjoy hunting Minmatar scum. The increase to 6 weeks can't come fast enough in my opinion. It'll allow alot more time to go out and enjoy alittle PvP, which BTW is the reason for keeping insurance to begin with isn't it?

It's a win win situation and your only complaining because it's different.
1) Last time I fully insured my Tempest it only cost 31,125,000 isk to fully insure. You're 20m too high
2) Insurance payout for a fully insured Tempest is 103,750,000 isk.
3) Very very rough estimate using a ME 0 Tempest blueprint and near market prices for minerals it costs about 86,037,500 isk to manufacture a Tempest. Very rough estimate being because I'm nowhere near the ME 0 Tempest blueprint I have so I highballed the mineral requirements from memory and I rarely get minerals near market price. But the isk difference on a non-researched Tempest blueprint and wagging on mineral cost is -17,712,500.
So using an actual researched blueprint and real mineral prices (not the inflated ones shown on the market) it's entirely possible that a blueprint owner loses 0 isk when their ship goes boom. And the modules? Can manufacture the guns and modules for everything to outfit a killer bship from recycles.
If a player or corp mines the high end minerals themselves in 0.0 space, they don't lose any isk as the money for those minerals never sees their wallet and cannot be considered 'lost'.
Edited PS: And it's damn hard to make me lose any money on a Typhoon having a ME 20 original that's still in the labs.
Cost to fully insure a Typhoon: 22,500,000 isk Insurance payout for a fully insured Typhoon: 75,000,000 isk.

So maybe the lucky corps who can mine their own high-end ores and build their own battleships and build their own modules actually break even... big deal! Most people aren't in that category... they buy ships and / or minerals at market price. Only large manufacturing corps or megacorps get battleships at true mineral price... and even then you're out tenss of millions re-equipping it if you use tech 2 or looted gear (not to mention implants if podded)!
I personally love this change, because as a casual player I just don't MAKE all that much ISK. I don't even FLY my battleship unless I decide to hunt NPC cruisers or need to carry a 1500 m3 cargo for my agent (an Apoc with 7 nanos and a MWD outruns any indy made )... so it's nice to know I won't have to spend all my money constantly re-insuring a ship I rarely use (since when I DO use it it's usually somewhere dangerous enough to warrant taking precautions).
And before you give the same old "I can't win a corp / alliance war because my enemy gets free replacement ships from insurance" speech, please remember that they are only free if your enemy can mine the needed resources without serious losses. If you're at war with someone and you aren't crippling their mining and hauling, why do you think you DESERVE to win?

Powergamers whining that them killing someone doesn't totally wreck the other players EVE experience should step out and chill.
It is a game, losing a ship always hurts, even if you get 40% free insurance.
A lot of the players are not powergamers who play 6+ (up to 20) hours a day. If you want to make people feel miserable just mingle with your own family.

What's the price of that BP? Did you count the work and time you have to spend on gathering all materials to the factory?
