Greets,
I'm aiming to pilot a HAC, Cerberus to be exact. Now, I can easily get into the ship now, All I would need it to train a few skills, mainly cruiser 5 and weapon upgrade 5.
But, I was wondering if it would be worth it to train everything else first? Mainly my Missile skills and some targeting skills, so I can Feel good when I finally get inside one.
So, should I just head straight into the HAC? Or should I wait until I get my engineering/Missile/Electronic skills up first?
Also, the shield question. Do the % bonuses from Shield compensation skills add that exact percentage? Say, if some amplifier A added 35% of Kinetic, would it recieve 5% and be upped to 40%? Or would it be some mathimatical deal and end up being only 36%? And do all of those skills stack on an Invul field?

If you can't fly something well don't fly it. Without good support skills you're not flying a cerb you're flying a wreck that doesn't know it's a wreck yet. Good for me since I build cerbs ;).
Get your support stuff (eng, mech, electronics) up to 5. Get your cap and shield stuff to at least 4. Ignore the shield compensation skills until you've gotten the rest to 4. They kinda suck in general unless you're running a passive tank. Also re-read the compensation description. They don't do a thing with active hards unless they are turned off. Pretty useless IMHO.

Funny thing is, why do you want to fly a Cerberus? Maybe you should answer that question first before you decide which skills to train. I.E. are you going to be doing some hard core PvP? Or mission grind? Or rat? It makes all the difference in the world.
If you have spent a while in a Caracal, which I presume you since the Cerberus is its T2 upgrade then you should have a feel for what you are getting yourself into. My opinion, don't fly a T2 ship until you can completely fit it with T2. Now, that doesn't always mean that T2 is better, faction and deadspace gear are superior for example.
Also, look at price, a Caracal will run you less than 5 mil, a Cerb meanwhile is more in the 65 to 75 mil range. Can you afford to lose 100 mil a pop in PvP if you are flying a HAC without proper skills? If you can, my hat's off to you. Me, I like my isk but to each their own.

I just got into a cerb, and it is great, but if you don't have the skill to back up the ship ... then its just another collection of space dust.

Thanks much. I've only got about 5.5m SP, and I'll admit, I think I screwed myself in the beginning. I spent most of my time swapping between Armor skills/Shield skills and related Caldari/Minmatar, so I really have no specialization. (Hoping to fix by going full missiles/Caldari.)

You never screw yourself skillwise in EVE, the worst you can do is prolong the path to reach your goal.

Woohoo! Only 5.5 more years until I have every skill to level 4 ... and 13 years after that to get the rest up to 5.
