It has been said that pirates and alliances alike abuse the "time out" feature of the game to save their ship. To be honest this kinda lame but a game mechanic kinda like ore theiving in empire that CCP just needs to bite their Tounge on.... Why? Because take today for example (Feb 23rd should this post go on forever) CCP's Britain ISP is dropping people every 5 minutes from the servers. Now how it is now, I'm traveling around and don't get a warning that its going to drop just that my screen CTD's and when I try to log on it says "server down." No I'm not alone cuz there are 20 people of 220 in help that are complaining about the same thing so i'm not alone. The polaris guys even say its "ISP related in england" so shhh to the flamers that say i need to upgrade my internet drivers (a joke btw).
Anyways the Timing out saves a player that travels around in space and when dropped through NO fault of his own IE server node failure, closed, server connection closed, etc... this allows that player to know in 2 minutes his ship is going to disappear from the eve universe. If ore thieving is going to be allowed as a game mechanic so should timing out players. I don't want to have to travel around eve and die because some frigate saw my ship empty cuz I was dropped by Crappy britain ISPs.

Dunno whats happening in England but the main ISP server in Iceland that servises CCP has been crashing so much tonight that I gave up on playing for the night.
But currantly ships vanishing is bugged and if you log on an alt your ship may vanish instantly, should be fixed 2 minuts, no more and no less, doesnt matter if in combat or not. Spawn of the Devil

It might be possible that the protocol EVE is using is not very stable against packet loses or duplicated receivced packets. I could imagine if a important packet is lost (e.g. a keep alive packet) that the EVE server than drops the connection.
How about introducing a lag-meter like in everquest. You see the packets over the last 30 seconds (input and output) as a line. If you see holes in the line then you know that you get packet loses and you have to be careful. Also you see the current latency and the bytes/second. BTW: everquest was playble even with 30-50% packet losses.

most odd indeed as it has been stated by CCP that the game servers are in the UK..as well as the forum.
of course anyone with half a brain dosnt beleave this to be true.
why on earth you whould want to try and host the worlds largest* online game in nIceland i dont know.

This exists, except that there's no way, that I know of, to open it once it's closed, and all installations of Eve start with it closed.
-a'll edit: removed my advice to enable the lag ui box, it didn't work.

They used to have a panel that showed your connection info like how many packets have been sent, how many answers are outstanding and stuff like that... was the most important panel EVER in Eve... no use going into a battle if you see that you have connection problems and nothing shows that as well as that panel did... I wish they would bring it back.

BT is my isp (england) and i never have had a problem with them. i might lose my asdl line from time to time, but it is back within seconds and i have never lost it more than once in 1 day/night. if you are getting booted because of inactivity try using norton system works 2003. it have a nice internet inactivity stopper |
