'Show info'?
How can you almost have the skills to fly them and yet not know the difference between a Force Recon and a Combat Recon ship? Or at the very least be able to quickly look the Rapier and Huginn up in game and see what the difference is?

The Huginn's role is to web and paint targets (mainly web) so others can kill them. The Rapier can do the same thing just not as well as the Huginn, or it can just do the role of a sneaky force recon with its covert ops cloak.

Edited by: Mc Fraser on 18/10/2007 09:32:41 i actually dont know how to fit the rapier after the damp nerf ... i used to do 2 damps and damp rigs but after the nerf i dont know. if u cant keep the enemy off your back ( web dont help) u kinda cant do anything if u die in seconds.

Rapier is nice for camping, Huginn is nice for roaming, imo.

I would say the exaxtly oposite. for gate camp u rly want uber lock time. A cloaking device means u have to deactivate it first...which means 3-4 sec locking delay atleast. Also the rapier got 4 low slots...which means a bether "nano fit " is possible than the huginn.Use some shield extender insteed of the damps and poly rigs and overdrives in low.
Huginn is bether for gate camping I think.More dps and fit a sensorbooster and u got damn nice locking time.

Huginn does more damage and can't use the cov ops cloak, rapier does less damage and can use it. That makes the rapier the perfect scout imo. It can cloak, it can probe, and it can tackle pretty well. At least until support arrives.
So if you have a huginn and a rapier in the same gang, the huginn will stay with the main group, while the rapier will scout and catch the bad guys for you.

Fit it for speed, forget about damps, and you should survive most situations. |

why not the OP fly both for a month or so and come back with impressions and a little wisdom. Your question offers nothing. Like a child that wants to be fed.

I make a short post for you.
Being able to sit in a ship isnt = can fly the ship.
The rapier is excellent scout, capfleet relocater, and a painter, leave it to that. In small roaming gangs your support efforts are not equal to the Hugin.
The Huggin has many roles to fill, the best role is to take out Vaga¦s, intys, and really quick dictors , as the Saber. You will get some bonuses for missile and your guns, dont bother tanking it up, use a L-xpander and a booster, put a T2 dmg cntrl in the bottom , and of you go. The most important skills you want to train, is webber, scram and painter. Once you have dubbelwebb a ship with your T2 webbers ( you will need to fit rigs to fit it all, even with really really good skills). Stay of faction webbers, they are MUCH better, but VERY MUCH expensiv. Then , fly off, lock, scram, webb, paint , adn fire,, in that order, and the kills will start popping in. Just a word of a advice, many vaga, dictor pilots fly with really expensive inplants, sp you and your recon buddy in gang will be called primary, and the recon set up for offensive PvP is no great tanker. So you will prolly loose a bunch while learning, and thats the true and only way to do it. So all this setups and ideas, are to be laborated with, find your own setup you like to fly in, and most most important as a recon pilot, STAY FROSTY ! :)

Edited by: Testy Mctest on 18/10/2007 12:43:52 The difference is fairly straightforward.
The Huginn gets:
Reasonable DPS Better cap Better armour hp Better resists Better base speed Better sensor stats
The Rapier gets:
A cloak An extra lowslot
The claok is obviously the biggest difference. The Huginn does what it does very well, but there are *always* times when you wish you had a cloak. Cloaked gang or not, recon gang or not, there are always times when you think "I wish I could cloak on that gate to catch someone" or "I wish I could cloak and gtfo of here". You need to decide whether you want that ability, and whether you're willing to pay the price for it of being generally a little worse at everything else - and a lot worse at dealing damage.
In terms if other fittings, the Rapier's extra low is pretty sexy. If you're speed fitted the extra low means it goes faster than a Huginn, or means you can mount the standard 3x Overdrive (if you're using polys) and still fit in a DCU with your standard-style passive shield tank. Another difference between the two ships is that whilst a Huginn will often mount missiles and hence have to run autocannons due to fitting restrictions, even though it would like to use artillery most of the time, the Rapier only has three highs to fit and can fit artillery (generally 650s). Not that having less guns is an advantage, just a difference.
Personally, I prefer the Rapier for small gangs - it does it's job better (webbing things) by virtue of it's stealth and is always handy to have around as an extra scout/cloaked gate camper/etc, plus it's faster and I use 2x Poly on all of my Minnie recons. For *very* small gangs though, where you really need to not lose the DPS that you lose by running a Rapier, I generally fly a Huginn instead.
In terms of some actual setups, here's what I use:
Huginn
3x 220 II, 3x Arbalest Assault (or, 3x 180 and 3x Heavy Launcher) 2x LSE II, 2x Fleeting Web II, 10mn MWD II, Sensor Booster II 3x Overdrive II 2x Polycarbon 3x Valkyrie II, 2x Warrior II
Sensor booster is there for faster locking when other people are tackling with scrams and you just need to web; if the extra point is needed, you can drop it for a scram - preferably a faction one of at least 28km if you can afford it. Also, if you ever get a chance, I highly recommend running a Minnie recon with DB/TS or Domi webs; you'll never have more fun laughing at people then when you web them at 60km and they die and cry :P
Rapier
3x 650 II, Covert Cloak 2x LSE II, 2x Fleeting Web II, 10mn MWD II, Sensor Booster II 3x Overdrive II, DCU II 2x Polycarbon 3x Vespa ECM, 2x Hornet ECM
Same notes as above apply, pretty much. Though I very rarely fly a non-faction one of these since they're so much easier to keep alive :)
Just watch now as I lose my first ever faction Rapier tonight :/

High: AC and Assualts Mid: MWD, 2x 24km scram, 2x Fleeting, Sensor booster Low: Tank
Utlimate tackler. Although speed tanking is probably the best route, so I'd go for all nano's in the low.
As an aside, look into hyperspatial velocity rgs. they increase your warp speed by 20%. Two is 40%, you can jet around, probe out, whatever super quick. ----------------- Friends Forever
