Microsoft Office can now go die an agonizingly slow cashless death for all I care Ok, so it's not QUITE "there" yet, it has a few glitches and all that, it's pretty slow (Java/Eclipse... meh), but it's FREE and can open/save MSOffice stuff without a hitch (at least all the things *I* have tried to). So, yeah, it's "Beta 1", but from what I see it's "Google-Beta" style... perma-beta, heh.
Anybody got something bad to say about it ? _

Lotus Domino.
i'm being facetious tbh, domino is getting better and this runs stand alone anyway. afaik it's coming bundled with the notes Eclipse based Domino8 framework thingy too. dunno to what degree they'll integrate it into the domino platform, but i'd imagine that would be it's selling point beyond simply being a free office suite.

Heh... whoa... people need to contain their enthusiasm Yeah, I know OpenOffice kind of did most of it nicely already, but not everything. For instance, have you tried editing any tables in a .ppt file with OO ? Yeah, thought so. _

OO is good, bar a few things. I use it, except when I 100% know I have to have something compatible with MS products. ---

I am cursed with the task of creating .CHMs, .DOCs and .PPTs for all products we bring out
Target audience... bleah. No choice. At least now I don't have to use MSO anymore... Windows itself is the only MS-thing I have to have at work.
Proprietary developement software we have to use (and get for free as part of the deal) only runs on it. Meh. Before you ask, most of'em crash in Wine instantly. They crash on Windows too, but not instantly and not that often _

Not that particular product...Dont get me wrong lotus notes kicks ass featurewise, but in my experience always was a little bit buggy. The regular lotus notes was always a titanic app. I havent seen domino in action though.
If it is free though...nothin beats that! _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. You have'll have to find some alternative means to do Your Thing, dude. |

Let's just say that we do contract work for a small department of a huge corporation that's a bit... bullheaded. To say the least. So the ones we deal with don't call the shots anyway. And HQ is on the other side of the world, almost. _

So... how does that work? Some company in India outsourced their IT dep. to Europe?

The closest you'll get me to Java is C#, I'll never go a step closer then that.

I just use open office. I can do everything in open office that I did in MS office. And as an added bonus, there's no paperclip. --------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually... some megacorp with HQ in Japan and branch offices in pretty much every major country of the world... and some department of the European branch (Germany) needs some stuff done, and hires some Eastern-European company (Romania, us) on a long-term contract to do a lot of stuff, faster, better and slightly cheaper than their "local" bunches _

Lotus software is complete and utter crap; Microsoft may be neigh-unto and virus at this point, but atleast it works when I want it to. I had to use Lotus Notes at work for databases and so forth, and it completely turned me off their line of software.
