Edited by: BombTech on 18/10/2007 20:24:08 I was a frozen corpse, drifting aimlessly in the blackness of space. How did my lifeless husk become this way you ask. Let me explain the first fledgling days of my existence in the wide universe that is EVE-Online. For the past year I have heard the vast wonders of that space, from the dreary hours mining countless asteroids to the pulse quickening finale of seeing the rat officerÆs ship being destroyed in a fiery explosion. I was subject to watch EVE trailers, reading guides, and listening to downloaded in-game MP3's. So one day 2 weeks ago I took my first step into this alternate reality. I had a good sponsor who set me up with enough isk to buy all the learning skills. Soon I was cruising the stars in my very own Rookie Frigate. I was a newborn child, eyes staring wide and unblinking at the new 'verse around me. I wanted to do it all; mine ore, perform missions and take on some pirates harassing the belts. But I was soon brought out of my high as I realized the complexities of this game. Training, training, training. Everything new that I wanted to do required me to train on the subject prior to performance. This didn't stop me in the least. I was determined to overcome this obstacle and continue on my quest to be a veteran pilot and dominate the space around me. Then came the inevitable outcome of being to*****y. I over stepped my knowledge and experience and took on too many ships for me to handle. In the blink of an eye, there I was floating in a little pod and running with my tail tucked between my legs back to the security of the station. I learned from that and wouldnÆt let it deter me from my pursuit. Soon I advanced, stepped out of my rookie ship and into a larger frigate. I felt my muscles flex as I ventured out, stronger, quicker and a little wiser. I moved out of my starter station and traveled to a lower security system. Bigger asteroid belts awaited me, each with better ore and small pirate spawns that slowly expanded my wallet. I was getting the basics down and feeling good about myself. I now owned a mining frigate, a missile frigate for rats and an industrial to haul my freshly mined ore. I started looking into joining a corp. to expand my horizons and start working towards a common goal. I was soon accepted into just such a corp. The CEO suggested that I stay in empire until I was hardened enough to come join the fun in nullsec. I readily agreed, ceding to his experience. So I stayed in highsec, mined and ratted the belts with a wild abandon, feeling the thrill of my accomplishments. One day in particular, I was cruising the belts killing rats that were being a nuisance to a group of miners when I was approached by a pilot who was starting some high level missions. He asked if I wanted to tag along and loot any of the wrecks after he was finished killing them. He explained that the loot wasn't worth his going after, but someone of my level would benefit greatly. I was overwhelmed with gratitude and quickly accepted. My hold was soon packed, to my eyes, with priceless loot. He even threw in a full set of +3 attribute implants to help out with my new life. I got back to my station, trained up cybernetics, and plugged in my implants. I was sitting high on my horse after that. I soon loaded all my loot into my Indy and was heading out to a main hub to sell it all and make a small fortune. I sold it all and watched my wallet fill up. I decided to purchase some future skills and items with my new money and undocked to head home. This is where my carefree life ended. Little did I know was that my new corp was part of a larger alliance. This alliance had a war declared on it by another alliance. As my ship entered space with my head full of future plans I soon heard the sickening sound of my ship being targeted. I didn't comprehend at first, who could be attacking me here. (cont...)

(Cont...) The first salvo hit me and with dread in my heart I watched my shields and armor disappear with the structure being held together by nothing but the paint. I watched helplessly as my ship disintegrated before my eyes. I quickly tried to reenter the station but it was too late as I soon heard the sound of targeting again. My heart sank like a stone, I was about to be pk'd. My innocence was being stripped away; I could do nothing but stare in horror as my little pod was turned into ash. I just sat there looking at my screen not believing the outcome. Luckily I had purchased an upgraded clone and I soon awoke at my home station, stripped of my implants and my Indy with all the newly purchased items in the hold. But I pulled myself together and my corp mates consoled me about my loss. I have come to discover that this is just one of the hardships that you have to face in this universe. I have not let this setback deter me in the lease. I have repurchased my ship and I am out again cruising the belts mining and ratting. The implants will be a long time in recovering, but I count that as a bonus, I wouldn't have had them if they were not donated to me. This game is indicative of life, on one hand you have someone who goes out of there way to help out the little guy and on the other you have the someone who thumps himself on the chest with pride as he crushes the weak between his fingers. But life goes on, and no matter how big and powerful you are, or how many times I get pk'd, you will never stop me from getting back up and driving on.

what does that have to do with paragraphs? also don't care about people that over react. I... enjoyed reading it.
Quote: or how many times I get pk'd, you will never stop me from getting back up and driving on.
IT's good to have you playing with us! you have the right attitude for this game my friend.
however if it has not been given to you allready let me give you one tip that I have found useful in my eve life.
when your about to get your ship taken out, click on something in space, nothing in space that you can warp to, then on the top of the overview where the other also visable button can be pressed to war, start spamming it. click click click click.
you will also escape at least form the current place where your being attacked, with you pod in tact :) this is because pods have no wait for warp time, and thus if you spam, you will live :)
also, I personnaly fine this to be the reason I keep playing! I love the idea of being so fragile. and the feeling of revenge! ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

That was a good read actually.
I, for one, believe that you haven't truly began in EVE until you suffer a horrible, heart-wrenching and financially-crippling loss. I can guarantee that everyone posting in this forum have experienced such a loss at least once.
I lost my very first and completely uninsured cruiser to a pirate in low-security space by the name of Ange1 - I spent every last penny on it and when I lost it I had to mine in a frigate for a week to get it back. But I still have that killmail, and before I leave this universe my weapons will grace the inside of his pod.
