I have played wow for the last 3 years, and i have also signed up for lord of the rings life time subscription, but i still feel as though i am missing something, i have played eve before and really enjoyed it, but i don't think i gave it enough time before i cancelled. i am back again, i want a game that i will be able to really fullfill my role playing interest, can i, in eve, play totally as a solo player if i want, ie spy, smuggler, pirate, or any other career that i like at the time, can i change my play style at any point, basically am i free do what ever i want at any time. wow is a great game, i am a games player and fan first and foremost and i won't slag any game off just for the hell of it, but wow, lord of the rings and guild wars etc are all very good games but after a while they fall into the same kind of structure, kill stuff and move up a lvl, untill you max out, then what? I want a game that is always changing and is flexibale enough so that you can play both pvp, and pve with out any penalties, can eve offer this to me?, i hope so. I have found eve players to be both helpfull and mature in their advice, i hope someone out there can help me decide what to do next.

Name any other game where you can do the following: 1. Conquer the Universe 2. Infiltrate an enemy corporation to steal their assets, expose their intelligence, and crush their morale in one swift blow 3. Scam people legally 4. Fight in a battle with hundreds of other players
I think you already know my answer. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 million SP in Forum Warfare Originally by: CCP Wrangler Booooo!!! Tarminic sux!!!

On the other hand, you can perma-grief people that participate in items 2 and 3 if you like. --

What game is this? By fight you mean something other than a slide show?
My original sig was 'Enjoy lag free play in a dynamic space MMORPG'. It was removed for lack of EVE content! ;) |

In Eve, trust noone. That being said, you are asking for advice and seem eager to join the Eve Community. Welcome.
In the forums, the most damage you will receive is to your ego. In game, as you already know, it is a different matter.
You are now part of a living, breathing universe. Huge alliances, comprised of huge corporations with massive memberships vie for control of space in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Even within the relatively safe empire controlled regions, massive power struggles take place.
None of this is quest driven. None of this is artificial. All of this is player controlled to one extent or another.
Welcome to Eve Online. The ultimate sandbox game where all of your choices dictate your future. Even forum choices.
Everything missing in other games can be found here. The only question is "Are you ready?" As you are already searching for more, the answer seems obvious. Welcome to Eve-Online.

thanks for your replies,i want a game where i'm not resticted by lvls, i want a game where maybe a rellative unskilled player, with the right skills can make a big difference, wether its spying or smuggling or what ever. I think i know that i want to be a part of eve, i just feel i need you, the player, to tell me that i'm doing the right thing :) can i, for example, become a good spy, with relatively low skills, as far as my ship is concerned, but still be successfull?

You have done the right thing!
You should spend a few weeks learning the game, and then jump right in to a corp in a big alliance that accepts new players. That should suit you well, and really contrast your past 3 years of WoW :)

Absolutely. Skill points are important obviously, but specialization lets you catch up with older players fairly quickly, and there are many professions that do not require any set SP level. The short answer is 'yes'. A longer answer is 'yes, but it will take effort, time and a number of failures / dissapointments along the way.
Have a look at the forth coming EW Recon Frigates - probably attainable by a new player in a relatively short amount of time. If 'sneakin about' is something you enjoy, then you'll want to train to use these ships or their bigger sisters the Force Recons. Skill wise the biggest hurdle will be aquiring a 'covert ops claoking device II': and they aint cheap.
For smuggling have a look at E's & Wizz (iirc) Corp, or the excellent Corelli Corporation Linkage, I think theyre into the smuggling thing.
Its all out there, you just need to look
Oh, and welcome to EVE.

Edited by: MotoTsume on 19/10/2007 23:35:30 Yeah to be a good spy would require not posting in forums with the character being used to spy with.
but yes a low sp character with the right skill set - covert ops skills for instance if you talking spying on space lanes for someone ( comings and goings in a region or system ) or if you want to spy on a corp for another corp it is a bit more complicated as you might have to run multiple accounts with 3 alts on each to be able to infiltrate a corp with a character that dont show a strange corp history that might bring suspicion on you.
---------- www.mototsume.ca It's just a game........Or is it?

aOMG GO BAK 2 WOW N00B!
I've heard of a few people having this problem - try entering your username and password 3 or 4 times and see if it works.
Also, a few rules that you should keep in mind: -Don't ever fly what you can't afford to lose, because you'll lose it at some point -The two most valuable commodities in EVE are Trust and your reputation...guard them -At least once, everyone in EVE will have a heart-wrenching, soul-crushing financial loss...understand that this will happen no matter what and be prepared for it -Always insure your ships -There is more to flying a ship than having the required skills - many ships have certain techniques that are needed to fly them well, talk to people who already do and investigate to find out how and what ---------------- Tarminic - 29 million SP in Forum Warfare Originally by: CCP Wrangler Booooo!!! This game is not about complexity, the ability to do anything you want, or anything else these fools post.
It is about the Thorax. This ship puts the crown on EVE.
Actually Lucian, I would recommend you join EVE University or something, learn the ropes, have some fun. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |
