Tanked raven with FOF :O Also drones work...
But if we were doing a chaos style 1v1 without EW because most people run as soon as target jammed in a 1v1.....
ATM - Tempest
Apoc / armageddon fall dead last cause DEVS HATE LASERS >:| so i hate them >:| Also everyone + their mom uses an em hardener when going out.

Edited by: dalman on 24/02/2004 17:34:26 There is no "best" thing. But overall, there are 2 configs that stands out.
1. The standard raven setup. This setup will kill almost anything. It won't kill a scorpion though (provided it has right jamming), since the scorp will jam you and run when you can't scramble it. There is one thing you need to fear though. That's config 2.
2. The extreme damage-dealing megathron. I'm talking 7 Ion cannons and a launcher, maybe 4-5 magnetic vortex/tech 2 damagemods, 9 heavy drones. MWD, webifier and possibly scrambler. Then some mods for defence. This ship will kill any ship 1vs1. Unless you get jammed. Cause then you face certain death (provided that you can't get away with your MWD).
There is a way to counter EVERYTHING in this game. (except sensor dampeners )

Nah, Apoc/armageddon are ok for 1vs1.
Armageddon is pretty much the same as the Megathron. Fit 7 dual heavy beams (or maybe mega pulse), and 5-6 heatsinks. And 9 heavy drones. With arma battleship bonus you'll kick ass. You may need to use one medslot for a large cap injector.
Apoc is also ok for 1vs1. My advice would be to fit 8 425mm carbide rails.

And you can't hardly kill another ship either due to your small firepower.
Best 1vs1 ship... No such thing
Partially true but, I (with an alt) attacked an apoc while he was chaining in 0.4 several months back in a Blackbird, took me about 15 minutes with him target jammed with racial jammers, warp jammed and webified, I almost ran out of torps before the ship blew up, this happaned WAY before logging off became the new hot thing.
But true that a scorp doesnt have enough power to kill a decent fitted ship 1on1 today. Spawn of the Devil

The diff in CPU, PG and cap usage me thinks, one extra vortex makes ion better than neutron i guess. Spawn of the Devil

Not a good idea to fly a battleship into combat unless with at least lvl 3, even if little bonus from lvl 2 to lvl 3-4 it might save the ship so train a bit more than lvl 2 efore taking it for a spin. Spawn of the Devil

I know that but I still wanna fly the beast around as soon as I can Like a kid with a new toy.
The best battleship is the one you're flying because, after all, a n00b in a Raven is still a n00b. He just takes a little bit longer to die

would have to argue that a apoc with a 8x 425mm setup kinda really kicks arse, 1v1 in me tempest with trigger using a laser setup if we were going for the kill i would of won purely cause trigger woulda ran outta cap, but when he fitted the 8x 425s he handed my arse to me ================================================

Yup. I finally decided to train another race myself. Training Gallante battleship lvl 4 atm. But I need to get on chaos to test things first. I've done all the math and seen people try lots of stuff on chaos, so I'm pretty sure how to best do it. It's a very risky but very rewarding fighting style, but it needs to be done by an experienced player.
The choice of Ion instead of neutron is obvious. The fitting reqs. 7 Ions with damagemods instead of 7 neutrons with RCUs is a better way to go. Not to mention after next patch when PG need on Ions is lowered even more. The lower range on Ions doesn't matter with MWD and webbifier. The lower cap usage on Ions is just a bonus.

Doesn't the ion's shoot a lot faster? so in the end you'd use as much or more cap?
Atm I'm still weighing up the benefits of 6 neutrons vs 7 ions mostly cause I use power diags instead of RCU's
But come next patch with the grid changes its no brainer that 7 ions is better.

Edited by: Buddrow on 24/02/2004 21:49:32 ok gentelmen, you say the 8X425 can work well on the apoc, how do you think i would fair in npc hunting with a setup such as that and if so armor or shields?, i have TONS of engeenering skills, i can use 6 tachs so got alot of skills maxed. but i can't use dmg mods and use them effictivly if i do use the tach setup. so im wondering if 8 425's would do the trick with a pair or maby 3 dmgs mods. can i have your thoughs on this guys?

for a 1v1 i would only fly 2 ships..
Megathron, blaster setup Raven tanked to the teeth
there is only 1 ship that can kill a raven 1on1 (if its setup right) and that is the megathron

Actually, I think the megathron is the only ship that can break a Raven's shields 1v1.
I still have to wonder how this will all change after cap power relays become things of the past.

I totally agree.
which one I would choose would depend on who is going to start the fight..
If I was starting the fight, I'd take the mega, and hope to warp in right on top of them. If I was expecting to be jumped, I'd take a raven. Mainly because, in a blaster boat, you are very susceptible to people warping in at +50km away, and when in a raven, this isn't a problem.
There are counters for both though.
mega = much more damage, very high risk. raven = good damage, fairly low risk. scorpion = poor damage, very low risk.
It all depends on what sort of fighter you are, I guess. .

Being a "n00b" in flying Gallante ships, I for the first time ever piloted a gallante ship on chaos today. I fitted my megathron with 6x Ion cannons, 1 dual heavy ion, 1 heavy launcher. Webifier, MWD, EM and thermal hardener. 5x magnetic Vortex, 1 cap relay, 1 RCU.
Lost 1 fight. Won maybe 6-7 fights (even with some fights starting at 30km range). Had to warp out from one(a funny guy that used 3 sensor dampeners on an apoc, giving me 80+ seconds locking time )
I proceeded to alone attack a spawn of 2 Gurista Usurpers (1M NPC battleship). Won that fight too, killed both the Usurps while they took me down to about 45% armor (and like 95% structure)(also note that the EM hardener was useless against the usurps, since they don't deal EM damage).
Conclusion is that a Megathron is probably the best ship for 1vs1. (yea, I've got much better kill/death ratio in my Raven, but being a megathron n00b, I'm pretty sure I'd vote it above the Raven)
The Megathron also kicks ass in fleet battles (with rails), is the best ship for NPC hunting (with rails), and is also the 2:nd best miner.
So IMO, the Megathron is the best ship in EVE.

EDIT: Wouldn't 2 power diag's be better than the 1 cap relay + 1RCU you had in that setup?

I can't state with any authority for 2 reasons:
1) I've stuck with Minmatar ships (and used a Scorpion briefly) since beta.
2) The jury will remain out till TomB does something about missiles
Missiles can have a huge impact on 2 races' ships: Minmatar and Caldari. Minmatar ships benefit from the ability to go half gunship/missile boat or full gunship. Caldari, if TomB keeps in mind they are supposed to own with missiles, could get really scary if they can use missiles better than Minmatar.

Quote: I'm interested in knowing how you handled cap. With only 1 cap relay ye must of run out of cap pretty quickly.
Adding the drones, that setup deals about 800 damage per second. Even if the opponent is tanked to 60% resistance (as average), that's still 320 damage per second. Even with an XL C-5L and a shield boost amplifier, he can only boost 156 hp/second. Means he will loose 164 hp/second. A 5000 hp shield is gone in 30 seconds. Once the shield is gone, he'll loose about 270 armor/second (while running his shieldbooster/hardeners). 5000 armor is gone in 19 seconds. Structure has no resistance at all, so while running his shield booster he'll loose 410 structure/second. 5000 structure is gone in 12 seconds. Total time it takes to kill a very tanked ship = about 61 seconds (counted from when I get into range).
During 61 seconds, the guns doesn't use more than like 2400 cap. 3 boosts with a MWD without skills is 2160 cap. Webbifier use 60 cap. Hardeners use 4 cap per second = 240 cap. (though it's less, since I of course turn them off once my shield is gone) The megathron has 4218.75 cap, recharging in 553.8 seconds.
A Raven/tempest/domi running EM+thermal+kinetic+XL C-5L+shield boost amplifier would take some seconds more to kill. Someone only running EM+thermal+standard Large would die in about 35 seconds.
Cap is enough for 3 MWD cycles and killing a heavily tanked ship (not a Scorp tank with good XL booster though).
It's only a question about if the opponent can be tanked enough and deal enough damage in the time it takes too close in and kill it. In general, the anwer is no. And certainly not if he's fitting the webbifier and scrambler that he needs to keep me from running.
Quote: EDIT: Wouldn't 2 power diag's be better than the 1 cap relay + 1RCU you had in that setup?
Ehmm, yea, hehe That's how it goes when you've never used either RCUs or PDSs before, like me I fitted 6 damage mods and 1 RCU for the first fight, which was against a corpmate in a Tempest. That was the fight I lossed, and I ran out of cap before he had killed me. So I just quickly swapped a damagemod for a cap relay. (on a sidenote, I'm pretty sure he was running em+thermal+kinetic+XL C-5L+shield amp, didn't ask though)

Edited by: Juan Andalusian on 25/02/2004 09:58:07 When i am confident about getting in range of my target, i usually go 6 Neuts 2 Launchers (various types). With a Heavy Cap Booster allowing for extra Mag Vs in the slots the relays would go the damage is simply staggering. Though Dalman is correct about being able to kill before cap runs dry even on 1 cap relay, being able to pump 800 cap in yer baby is always handy. It also allows for an extra 1.5 burst of the MWD which can also be a lifesaver:P
This is a max damage loadout though. With potential to get ECCM + Backup Array on and still beat Ion loadout DoT. If you fail to get in range though you have no defences to rely on.
Basically knowing early on or, even better, beforehand wether you are going to be able to MWD in range or not is the greatest skill a Thron pilot needs.

I think having 4+ dmg mods is a bit over-rated, I think theres a point where you can say "I do enough dmg already, don't need anymore"
I think once you get there thats the important turning point as then you start to consider how much dmg you can get rid of to get other utilities

I dunno what they did on chaos, but atm that setup suckz hard. 1 or 2 weeks ago, i had that setup with 7 ions, 3 dmg mods and i could kill any bs in < 50 sec... but now 7 of 10 shots the ions miss theyr target, and you do damage like a frig with small wepons. even 425mm hits better at 3km than ions...
