Edited by: Ari Direll on 20/10/2007 23:08:05 i may be months behind, but i read recently about the project of a firefly MMO. i dont really know wich status it has (very early i guess) but the question is: would you play it?
while im afraid of the usual "m4l reynollds" idiots, i think this game would cater to many eve-players around. if the space isnt an addition to groundplay or the other way around, if both areas tie harmonically in each other this could be a hard competition to eve-o.
anyway: discuss if its discussion worthy. :)
edit: typos --- char, forum, random picked. me, bothered, cant be less. ^^ |

Maybe.
I love the TV show though and it would do my head in to see it made into WoW (or any other horribly conventional MMO) in space.
I'd expect them to at least try and make the world a bit alive and dynamic.

Depends on what kind of game it turns out to be. If it's just another Wow-like xp-to-max-level grindfest I won't even consider it.

yes, i really hope that it wont turn out to be a grindfest or a cutie-baby-WoW atmosphere. however, the setting is that of a harsh world. in space and on the ground. most of the ships are far from shiny polished luxury yachts. you have factions (browncoats and the others), you have factions _in_ the factions and you have the reapers. what i would hope for is the absence of classes and an intelligent skillsystem.
okay everyone would want to play a smuggling char. *g* but besides of that, imagine a mature SWG groundpart without classes and clever skillsystem combined with the space of eve... --- char, forum, random picked. me, bothered, cant be less. ^^ |

No. To be honest, the firefly universe and backstory wasn't that compelling. The things that made it good were the stories and the character interactions. You wouldn't have that in a firefly MMO.
Besides, you'd have hundreds of people calling themselves variants of "mal", "m4l", "ma1", "m41", "xXx_MalcolmReynolds_xXx", "r1v3r t4m", "jainne", "jayynne", "jann", "jinn", etc. I would have to claw my eyes out after a while of seeing that. --------------------------------------------------------------------

well, to be honest: is the backstory of star wars that compelling (and that of EvE if we are on this)? i mean it isnt really something new, it isnt even something old told in a new way. its the same old good versus bad and they fight with sword and magic. and they did an MMO of that (and a huge bunch of other stuff too).
what im trying to say, it would have to be player driven.

oh god yes. i could'nt play it, if the community consists only of idiots with such names. :)
anyway, i think if its done right it can be good. it is far from done (if ever) and its way too early to judge it. but the idea is appealing to me. --- char, forum, random picked. me, bothered, cant be less. ^^ |

If it was good probebly not because it would be just another EVE only for Firely Fanbois. However if it was another WoW clone only in space DEFINATELY not. I'm 99% certain if there ever was one it would be the latter, pff quality over ratings. ___________

It's Reavers. Like Warhammer, I'd give it a try but I'd keep a skeptical mind.

Yes I would.
I've played half a dozen mmos and this one would grab my attention. How long for would be the question.
As for names stolen from the show, how many Chuck Norris misspellings do we have in Eve? They're not all Chuck's alts. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |

Chuck Norris? Firefly? what the hell are you smoking? The one thing I'll give you is that people seemed to get shot/stabbed or otherwise horribly mangled during the course of a show than were somehow whole again at the end, of course by equally amazing means. Atleast the finally killed someone in the movie.

Boring story, unintresting characthers, what else can I ask for? The perfect sleeping pill!
Go watch some quality show, like Stargate/Stargate Atlantis or Eureka.

You're right, i'm an idiot and not a nice person sometimes, I can't seem to help it and for that I apologise, I didn't mean to upset you but for some reason Firefly and serenity actually anger me and when angry I write things I don't mean, I can't say exactly why I dislike it so strongly it just really rubs me up the wrong way. You've got every right to think i'm a douche (I don't know what this means) or something else and I realise that I often present myself in such a way across these forums. I've got nothing to blame for it, it's my fault entirely. I would like to think that if we talked we'd get along better but my actions here have probably burned many of those bridges already. Please understand though that I very rarely mean any actually offense to people in what I say, Swearwords are used around here with impunity in everyday language and it's hard to not have that follow me online. What i'm trying to say is.. well, i'm not 100% sure but I am saddened to know that you think i'm not a nice person even though we don't actually know eachother. It may not mean anything to you but I do apologise for my actions towards you and any other forum members who've been upset by anything i've written, often I do so without thinking and just make an idiot of myself. Sorry.

Firefly is one of the most underrated TV series ever. It's technically quite brilliant, but unfortunately fox marketed it very badly... they didn't realise it'd only fall into a sci-fi niche

What about a Chuck Norris MMORPG?
It would be called "Chuck Norris Online" and everyone would be in space because of the powerfull round-house-kick that sent us there.

sorry, couldnt resist(and a cookie for the person that recognises it first) ;p
anyway, never seen firefily, but personaly I think the term mmorpg is off, mmog would be better, not much roleplaying going on in most online games ----- GIEV custom ship paint jobs!

No. Because Joss Whedon has nothing to do with it. This was Fox selling the rights to the game in the cheapest manner possible. It's going to suck, it's going to be entirely flaky, and it will be a disgrace towards the show.
On a side note, I haven't laughed as hard as I did when I read someone trash Firefly and then recommend Eureka and the Stargate shows in a very long time. --------
