Technically its very impressive, granted, and i don't deny that he's very talented.
But by god that music goes through me
Merely personal taste, but I'm much more a fan of the likes of Chris Wolstenholme(muse) or flea from the chilis, the sound from the guitar in that link sounds like it should be coming from a keyboard in a j-pop piece.
Again, impressive though, surprisingly lively.

Edited by: Sister Impotentata on 21/10/2007 01:15:18 Obliquely counter-topic; here's a pretty good bass guy getting circumpwnulated by a better guitar guy. It's an honorable battle, but around 5:30 you can see bass guy starting to flag. He's getting winded, his cap is starting to drain, and he's counting off the notes: "e-g-b-e-g-b-e-g-b-a-c-f-a-c-f-oh bloody hell!" Then guitar guy swoops in and looks over all cheekylike (5:47). "Oh, what kind of notes were you playing? Like this? Let me WTFRockPWN it up for you!"
[EDIT] Your guy rocks. I would like to hear him fight JP. ----- TANSTAAFL

Edited by: Mr Friendly on 21/10/2007 01:25:26 Try listening to Jaco Pastorius sometime. He pioneered the whole fast, technical, melodic and incredible electric bass stuff. Got known with Weather Report, then did more jazz oriented solo stuff... His Happy Birthday album was excellent and is very accessible. __________________________________________________ FOLD. Hard to argue against Jaco Pastorius.
My personal love right now and has been for sometime is Juan Alderete who's now playing with The Mars Volta, previously of Racer-X. If you want to hear a rhythm section jam... it's beyond amazing especially since they finally got a permanent drummer out of Thomas Pridgen, who himself is making a good argument as a 'best ever' in the making behind the kit. --------

I think 'best ever' would be hotly contested by Jack Dejohnette, but I take your point ;) He's damned good. Jack's better though ;P (but has about 30 years more experience). Colour me impressed. __________________________________________________ FOLD. The Ultimate PVP. It really is Us vs. Them. clicky |

Flea is Godly, Muse are a bit too indie for me. In my eyes Flea and Les Claypool are the best bassists in the world. I started to play the bass due to Flea's amazing sounds and energetic skills.
...but Muuuuse? No way man...those boyos dont even live a rockstars life, you knid of remind me of a guy I met whilst gigging around Belfast, he simply could not get it through his head that Muse were indie [in a pathetic way].

Muse are a bit too indie for me.
Do you see any baggy t-shirts, skinny jeans, weary 'hip' accented lyrics, and barred chords as far as the eye can see?
They are the older style of indie with some alt-rock, but not the ****ty artic monkeys type of indie polluting the airwaves now.

Also, there's no way the guy from muse is anywhere near Flea's skill.

I don't believe there is one person who is the best in the world at anything, but there surely are a few who stick out of the crowd. Gotta toss John Myung of Dream Theater into the fray here .. great bassist. __________

Please, if you're gong to talk about Metallica, at least mention the bass player that actually played. Nothing against Jason, God knows hes better than the dude in there now, but he is NO Cliff Burton. If only that bus crash had killed Lars Ulrich and not Cliff Burton!
