I created this lottery cuz I got tired of seeing these lotteries where the prizes were ships I couldn't fly for months, or tickets I couldn't afford to buy for weeks.
So I present to you, the Newbie Lottery! Each ticket is only 1 million ISK!
The prize? A new Drake (or T1 Battlecruiser of your choice)! The ship will be contracted at 1 jump from Jita (of your choice).
The rules are simple:
1) There are 50 tickets up for grabs! Each player is entitled to up to 10 tickets. 2) Lottery is drawn on 27th Oct 11GMT (start of DT). 3) No messy random number generators that can't be truly verified! On 27th Oct 11GMT, a screenshot is taken of Eve Online General Discussion 1st page. In the last 10 post threads, each value of Replies, Reads and time are added up. For time, the digits are combined to a single value (eg 09:10:00 = 91000, 2007.10.27 = 20071027). The total is added up and mod 50. Mod 50 will return a number between 1 and 50. You can verify the result yourself by taking your own screenshot. 4) Since I'm no math genius, my screenshot is final unless rightfully contested. 5) The winner will be announced and the contract made in 24hrs once claimed in 24hrs. If not claimed, the winner is drawn again. 6) The lottery will only start if all 50 tickets are sold.

Perhaps they perceive that label as an insult?

That'll be odd, cuz newb and newbie is a commonly accepted term, compared to the derogatory versions like n00b or nub.

There's nothing insulting in a "newb" designation itself, I believe.
What's stopping people from participating, in my opinion, is horrible system of deciding winning numbers. Ironically enough it's pretended to be "not messy", while actually being mess incarnated. Why not use some decent RL lottery with results announced via internet, like most lottery runners do? That is what stands for clear, not-scammable lottery in people's eyes, not some fleety screenshot that everyone and his dog could fake in a minute.

What's so fleeting about a screenshot anyone and his dog could take and compare results?
No matter, what in your opinion RL lottery would "people" see as fair and known?

I've reduced the tickets to 25 at 1 mil each. Observers will note that if all tickets are sold it's still a loss to me.
But the point is for newbies to have fun and get a leg up. If this is still a scam (a scam of a mighty million isk!), then I'm speechless.

No way to get a second and third place? I would add prizes for the participants...
I had help when I started and I avoided a lot of problems that way...
I want to give my help to new guys myself!
(you find a way to get a second place, a third and a fourth and I'll give those guys 10, 5 and 1 millions!)

Nice idea, but I'm more concerned about selling tickets to worry about other things like smaller prizes, more prizes etc.
