Can any of you veterans share your knowledge on what is the best setting for the overview? How many overviews do you have saved? Is there any object that doesn't need to be kept in an overview because it clutters it without being ever useful? Is there any object (besides rats, stations or gates) that definetely has to be present in a default overview? How many/which columns should it have?

Edited by: Daedalus DuGalle on 21/10/2007 11:56:06 There are an infinite set of possible overview settings based on an infinite set of situations in EVE. For example, if I was in a gang flying a cruiser set for anti-frigate work, my overview would show no ships other then frigates. But if I was in a battleship in a fleet fight I may have nothing showing but other battleships.
If I was a miner, I might have only one type of ore visible, or all ore visible depending on my mining habits.
A good universal thing to EXCLUDE from your overview are NPC ships. There is no real need to have CONCORD or Faction navy ships showing. You don't really interact with them until they shoot at you, at which point in most situations you're dead, or will be dead very soon.
Personally, I always show warp gates at a minimum.
On my escape-from-pirates settings I've got stations and planets as well.
On my ratting/mining I've got stations and warp gates amd roid belts. Also ore if I'm mining.
The choices are endless and make up your own based on what you need. Nobody will ever give you a more efficient overview setting then something you come up with.

For agent missions (and complexes) that don't require you to destroy a specific building, I find it efficient to turn off "large collidable objects".... that gets rid of a lot of those big buildings that get in the way of seeing the rats on the overview. A LOT less clutter. ----- Ymandra's Profile |

bilboards...there is no use for them except to clutter up space near a gate

I just have ships on my overview, make sure to give priority to wardec and people with bad standing(if your in > 0.1 space), I exclude alliance, corp and gang mates to. If I decide to fly logistics I have a different setup that's pretty much the opposite. Also have a salvaging option that shows wrecks and cargo containers.
For stations and gates and all that I just use the right click menu, it's fast once you get used to it. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

I find it most helpful to switch between presets (you can save/load them by right-click on the overview on the little bar that's labeled 'OVERVIEW'), depending on what I'm doing.

I only keep two presets -- one for missions, ratting, and general travel and one for mining. I have eliminated NPC ships and other gate/station clutter and added star gates and combat drones to both.
In various circumstances I will eliminate nuisance items like the large collidable objects of specific asteroid types using the right click menu on the overview, but I don't confuse myself with lots of presets.
