I just asked myself what is this GTC trade all about and then i realize that if CCP would sell Isk on Ebay (or even better their own ISK auction [lesser costs for CCP]) for $/Ç/whatever, that would solve a lot of problems.
And this is why: With the sactioned GTC trade, CCP already (indirectly) sells ISK for $, it is just in a nicer package. Now if you would disallow GTC trade and not support it, but put in the direct ISK sell, this would lead to the following:
1. Farming characters would disappear, because you cant turn ISK to $ nor you cant turn ISK to game time any more legally. 2. ISK seller would be heavily disencouraged because the price paid on the CCP market would have to be undercut all the time, which will reduce their profit pretty much. 3. Less alt spam, because you cant pay an army of your own just with a profitable main which leads to a fairer gameplay.

Why not? CCP says they are innovative, you cant stop ISK farmer/seller from doing their thing, so why not do it yourself for your own profit and kick out the spammer/farmer by doing it? They did it with GTC trading, its just a small step further.

The sale of GTC's for isk must moves isk between players. If CCP started selling isk they would either have to increase the isk sinks in game (Taxes, BPO's etc) to generate the isk or they will have to create it out fo fine air. so either is gets harder for player who do not buy isk to compete as the costs go up. Or you starting getting inflation as the value of isk goes downs as large quanties.
Also if CCP start selling isk, then isk will have a offical $ value. So if you destory someones ship you have just destroyed their property a crime in most country's and you have do so probably over an internation/state boundy's which in some country makes it a bigger crime.
Take some of the major heists that have happen, if they had an offical $ value the people who pulled it off would face time in jail.
Pirate asking for ransom = demanding money with menacies etc
Also if CCP ban some for breach of the rules, they would have the right to sue for there value of there assets.
This have been discussed a large number of times and it always comes done to non consentail PVP would be a crime, this would destory eve.
Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congrated by carebears for the actions. |

If ISK have a $ value then PVP could be seen by some countrys as gambling which maybe ilegall or have a minum age that is high then currently required by CCP, this would reduce the number of players. Also Some counties ban their banks from processing transactions to gambling companies. Also you have to rememeber that some players have gambling operations in game for isk.
Also at the moment the IRS is looking at taxing MMPOG's. At the moment CCP have the exchange rate at 1ISK =$0 as such it has zero taxable revenue, if there was a higher exchage rate they by law in most counties you would be required to keep accounts and declare the revenue to the tax people as you would have made a profit playing the game.
It would not stop the farmers, they will just try and control part of the ecomeny like decrypers and only sell them for $$$$ instead of selling the isk. Some already offer items directly for cash.

Also loosing all the ISK farming accounts is not in CCP's best interest. Why would a company want to loose 3,000+ subscriptions (no data to support number, just a guess).

Edited by: Benn Helmsman on 21/10/2007 18:18:34 Ok, first of all, all the items you "control" in EVE are not your property, you cant apply any rights on them.
Second, it cant be gambling, because there is no chance of winning money, you just pay the service to have control over more ISK in a game.
Inflation, well thats simple: less farming, less money around.
Add: And there would be no fixed prices, as i said, there would be auctions, limited on a certain amount/day.

Because it would be seen as unethical and money grabbing. It would also seriously unbalance the market which is already hanging over the cliff by a shoesting 2 minutes away from run away inflation and collapse.
Would you pay 13 million for a tech 1 medium beam laser? Well you would have to and so would player who can't afford to pay for isk out of game.

You need to compare what happens with the GTC system and what you propose.
-GTC system A guy wants to buy a carrier in GTC : He buys enough GTC to get the 1,5~2 billion isks he needs like 10 30 days GTC. -> Players who bought those with isks can play for a total of 10 months free. It widens the community which is a good thing, some players may not always be able to pay but can have much in-game assets. CCP sold more accounts.
-Direct CCP->players isk selling : A guy wants to buy a carrier : He buys isk directly. No one in the community gets anything, people that have in-game assets but not much real life money can't afford playing, they quit. Nothing brought to the community. CCP gets money directly.
In both cases, CCP sold something. In one case, the community is wider. In the other it doesn't help increase the community and Eve will be known as the game for rich people (then I quit, I'm not). -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

The community is not wider, these are just hordes of farmer and spam alts you can use to generate more ISK to buy even more GTC...Like macro miners and datacore farming alts.

Spam alts are on trial, they just get banned, no one pays for them. Macro miners and datacore farming alts? Why would people pay for something that gives them much more than if they paid? Why buying isks when you cn get 10x more with just paying an account? -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

The community does get wider, in poorer countries and for kids with no income, buying GTC with ISK is the best way to get in game, and sometimes even the main reason to play Eve rather then something else.

You are aware that a lot of people actively farm ISK only to buy GTC with it? That infuses the same (or even more) in the market as a controlled sell from CCP would.

People would stop farming if they could buy isks with real money? I don't get your point, they farm not to pay, they won't buy isks... So they won't stop farming! So, they will farm and others will buy isks directly from CCP, so, there will be twice the isk created? Maybe you only want to have the GTC trade stopped, so these people don't play anymore?
I really don't see what it would improve in the game! -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Hmmm
No No and No
Sorry to be blunt but here is why...
1. EVE wld enter a depression..too much spending not enough earning/production (remeber Miami after the coke trade in the ole days?)...prices would rice coz ppl are rich and can afford it...which is fine for little rich kids with money to burn...but for the poor experienced pvp'er who has to rat for his dinner, life wld get VERY HARD.
2. The timecode bazaar is fine for buying isk, it is there because many ppl cant be bothered with the effort of getting a gtc, advertisng on forums, bumping untill they get a sale whilst online and then getting ur isk. Only v.committed peeps with paypal etc operate using this method, which is good to stop inflation etc. Otherwise every kid and his dog would just send 20 bucks to ebay for some isk they cant be bothered saving.
The system atm is fine, plz dont change it, ppl with half a brain dont buy of dodgy dealers. isk farmers well......I doubt their a huge force in EVE that will wtf pwn every allaince or trader...their nothing dont worry bout em, theyll be crying when ccp bust em neway

What confuses me is why you ask the question
Do you think that you will get a valid authorised answer (which would either be from the CEO or directed by him)
Then - how would you believe that it did come from him - or in actual fact prove that I am NOT him ....
Forum warriors - spent more time in game ....
