So we have seen several projects which took usage of this new API, to handle trading.
One i remember is eve tycoon. But the owner left eve. Offline wallet by Ray was another one. But i think Ray gone MIA?
Was there any others?
Or what tool do you guys for keeping track of your trading?
Im still flirting with making an opensource tool for this in a slightly more cool way. But if theres tools out there which are so good already, its pointless.

So far, from what I've seen of the API, it's practically worthless.

Thats a very bold way of saying it, and i think its not true tbh.
Do you realise what we can do with the API?

The API key is EXTREMLY useful for anyone running a business. Before the API keys it took me hours to accomplish less of what I can do now in 2 minutes with the API keys.

It's not worthless, but there is a lot of room for improvement. It seems they have diverted the resources from its development for something else. People were excited about the development of the API, but it died when the DEV got retasked to something else. He was doing regular updates and interacting with the players in the EVE Technology Forum. <sig>

i still use the offline version of eve-tycoon... still haven't found anything better it's a shame the devloper left this had a lot of promise. everything else i've looked at is clunky and fairly useless. but e-tycoon gives me the kind of data i like.

EVE Income is quite cool. I was talking to the author about it lately but he is taking a break from developing atm. It is on sourceforge though and totally open-source if anyone wants to take a stab at it.

I didnt know of this program till now. But it looks rather good.
My ideas were something like this, just with a lots better UI.

Well, there is clearly room for a better UI and more info... but it's a great starting point imo. I love "Trade Efficiency" tab when you click Absolute > Use Volume it shows you which items you've made the most profit from. Basically it shows (Sell Price - Buy Price) * Volume

www.eve-graph.com is going from strength to strength with regard to its number of users. It is also still an active project with some great updates lined up for the future to aid traders as well as builders.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you also have to supply a third party site your Full API key also, right? <sig>

Anyone wanting Wallet data out of the API needs to use the Full API Key. CCP's rules.
If you want access to said data from any computer your options are: 1) Write and host your own tool. 2) Code audit and host your own copy of someone else's tool. 3) Use a free public tool written and hosted by a member of the community.
Eve-Graph is option 3 and it seems a lot of people like it. For the tin-foilers and/or people with very sensitive business models this is unlikely to be acceptable (even with the API Key re-roll tool here) which is why option 1 and 2 and the non-web based solutions are cool as alternatives. Having said that I think Eve-Graph has some nifty features the others are missing.
Eve-Graph is my tool that I figured others might find useful too; your mileage may vary but I'm not forcing anyone to use it.

I've been looking for a market tool that can combine two different characters on two separate accounts. I buy in Jita using my Jita alt account, and then ship using my main account and sell again using a different alt on my main's account. I am hoping that EVE MEEP will be able to set this up eventually.

Just before I hit "Post Reply" I considered changing the whole post to simply "Yes." I'm a fan of pithy replies.
It wasn't my intention to mislead.

One of the nifty features of Eve-Graph is that it already does this.

BTW I think I should add this regarding Ray's "Sexy"; While I use the webfront that he has developed I think the most key fundamental of Sexy is that it properly extracts data via the api and places into an mysql database. It is surprising how powerful that is and how much people overlook it.
PHP and Mysql is such a diverse and well skilled community. The possibility for someone else to take over from Ray's work is huge. From this basic standardizing of the data into Mysql there are plenty of people here who could design numerous web pages leveraging the power of the platform and data.
I constantly dream about Ray doing a less "elegant" version of Sexy. I prefer simplified functionality instead of the widely versatile state that Sexy is currently in. Why, well for one, more simplified direct link pages would be easier to formet for igb usage. Another aspect is that with simpler direct use pages end-user customization is much much easier. (For instance referrer = www.exampleportal.com or die)
So, of all the projects that are out there... imho Ray's is the easiest of all for the community to tap into. Simple requirement, you need to know PHP and MySql. (For myself I made odbc connections to the MySql for excel/access in line with my own abilities.)

Got a design for users who run slightly more advanced software(.NET 3.5, WPF and stuff like that). It allows me to do 3D in the application, very nice gaphs and other visual effects which will rock.

Edited by: Ambo on 22/10/2007 08:04:09 Well I've written my own app. The base is pretty steady but halfway through I just wanted to get it to a usefull state so rushed the rest... It dosn't crash or anything but it's not exactly user-friendly so I havn't released it.
Here's what it does:
1. Store all journal & transaction data in a database. 2. Maintains an assets table that is updated from transaction data. 3. Can create 'courier contracts'. These move the goods in the asset table from one location to the other. This will also calculate reward and collateral value for the contract based upon estimated sell cost at the destination, the purchase price of the items being moved, the number of jumps and the security status of the destination & pickup systems. 4. Can run through the entire list of assets and produce a list of possible courier contracts. E.g. you can produce a list of any contracts over 5mil collateral and then just create the top 10 (by collateral) in Eve itself. Saves you the work of going through a massive list of assets in-game. 5. Can produce various reports. Income statement, Item report, Item detail report and Assets report. 6. Item report contains total profit, a rough profit/hour, etc. 7. Assets report contains total item quantities and all locations, total buy prices, total expected sell prices and profit. 8. Income statement Gives a breakdown of your revenue and expenses by journal entry type. The time period, start date and number of colums are configurable.
This uses C# 2.0 and SQL server express. I'd be happy to provide source code to anyone who wanted to improve upon it but it is NOT suitable for general release at this time.
btw, just to be clear, this is a totally stand-alone windows app. It's not a web page or anything like that.

I wrote a nice little app in excel that used the API, but because I am a manufacturer it was virtually useless.
Sure it could keep track of what I sell, and graph trends but I wanted to manage stock as well. It worked perfectly well on my trade alt, as it could tally up what i've bought and sold and give me an instant asset snapshot. I cannot utilise this on my trade alt.
Until manufacturing / industry jobs are included in the API data I can only use it for trading. |

It would seem that there is many different talented people working on several different programs. Is anyone interested in pooling their skills/resources and working together as a Team to produce One program that incorporates what is desired?
I am not a coder by profession, but I have dabbled in Basic, Pascal, Cobol, C, C++ and Visual Basic. I'm willing to put what skills I have to use, or help manage a team.

I think the API is great. I can download everything to an excel file then use the data sort functions there to track my sales and income. It's alot easier then counting 15 pages of transaction log in the wallet.

The API is still undergoing a lot of changes. Rev 3 will bring a lot of new things and a lot of modifications to the old system. There are threads in the technology forum where you can suggest changes for the API and I suggest all of you who are complaining check it out. ------------------------------ ~ AKA Josh ~ - Battleclinic Staff Developer - ------------------------------
