Im sure we can all argue indefinatley about the complexities of 0.0
But i can tell you one thing. I had been playing for about a month or a month and a half before i joined a nice 0.0 corp. i have died a total of 3 times i think. Twice during the 43 jump jouney down there, and once when we accidently ran into two guys. Even then i got away, and my buddy chose to fight the two on his own, since i couldnt let that happen, i returned to fight, but lose.
I might be a noob, but im not stupid, or scared. Drive a fast ship or something you dont mind losing, and you wait untill downtime or when there are only 15thousand ppl online to haul your loot to the station, you will be perfectly fine. (and watch local of course, through out some probes, whatever)
I cant wait untill i have the skills so i am able to put up a decent fight. Im tired of having to run away.

Edited by: U''sell Eyebui on 23/10/2007 18:59:35 Edited by: U''sell Eyebui on 23/10/2007 18:53:52 Ishtars are the **** in 0.0, excellent for ratting as well as pvp. Great solo gank ship and fast enough to get away from most anything.
But as someone said earlier, 0.0 alliances have great intel networks and many dedicated pvpers. If you're reported in an intel channel you will be tracked down. But if you do find an alliance with a soft underbelly enjoy.
Make sure you are in NPC space because outposts that are controlled by alliances you will not be able to dock at.
Something that is fun to do is to get in a ship with a cloak and sit in someone's space for a few hours. Just afk cloaked at a ss. Wait for them to get used to you being in the system (so they aren't all in station).
PVPer in my old corp would just sit in enemy space with his three accounts all cloaked. Every once in a while he would come back to his pc check for targets, pop one, go back to his ss and cloak for another few hours. Worked great and drove our enemies mad. But being able to jump two recons and a HAC onto unsuspecting targets at will tends to have that affect.
Make sure you watch the map and try not to jump into dead end systems (a system with only one exit) as alliances love to trap people in those and be wary of pipe systems (a series of systems with only two exits (one being the one you just came from)) because they are the easiest to get caught in. Always make sure you know where your exit is. And remember, they know their space better than you do and they know what systems to lock down before you ever get to them.

Edited by: Shiodome on 24/10/2007 04:45:17 my only advice would be:
if you see a blob steamroll into the system you're in and then leave by anther gate without trying to look for you... hide or run away. because you can bet your last isk there's a bigger blob chasing the first no more than 2 jumps behind. _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

LOL
Like others mentioned, the people who live in a 0.0 region will have an intel channel for that region. If someone spots you, everyone in the region will know you're there, so don't stay in any one place too long. If you aggravate them enough, someone will come for you.
Check the map for a largish number of active pilots + abnormal number of recent ship kills. That's probably a gatecamp. An abnormal number of pod kills means it's probably a bubblecamp. Check for "faction police and pirate ships destroyed" in the last 24 hours for big, bright blobs and you've found somebody's ratting system.
Something that used to irritate the hell out of me when I was in a 0.0 alliance was station systems. People feel "safe" with so many blues in local, so they rat in the station systems. The thing is, with so many people in local, it's harder to notice a newcomer that doesn't belong there, so somebody could swoop in and gank a ratter and then run like hell before everybody undocks.
