CCP: Will you ever be able to release an OSX version?!
Just a guess but if OSX is much easier to use and based off unix, would it be easier to work with while providing more robust support as well?
Maybe opengl?
Or is this too time consuming... I mean, it maybe boost your sales quite a bit and im sure apple would love to add you to their list of playable hot titles, considering i find this a more mature MMORPG with a clean look to it. (APPLE + CCP = sex)

Edited by: Thorke on 21/10/2007 21:16:15 Since I very much doubt CCP will actually respond with a commital even if it is in the long term work queue, I will point out that creating a game (or any software) that runs on multiple platforms while taking advantage of many of the proprietary features of the operating systems isn't easy. While it is clear to all right thinking people that Unix is one of the best OS platforms around (I have been using it since 76), it probably doesn't have DirectX support built in.
IMHO, it would probably be much cheaper for them to simply give a copy of a windows emulator program to each OSX user that wanted to play the game than to go through the expense to convert the game to work on the OSX platform and then to continue to maintain the game on both platforms. <of course the untapped market may be much larger than I expect it to be>

I'm sure apple would like it, but it's a bad business decision imo. Simply put windows has the market on computer games and nearly everyone that plays games online has windows installed or a windows emulator in some form. Taking developer time on this is just a poor investment I think.
As was already mentioned it'd be more worthwhile to invest in a windows emulator then trying to port the game. Plus I think a better step would be to take advantage of DX10 -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

The big problem is that it was developed with the Direct X (MSFT). You know what that means for OSX.

There are both OSX and Linux versions "in the works."
The opportunity to apply for a closed beta was floating about not too long ago. - Blog Below

This thread is about the closed BETA for the Mac and Linux "client". I don't wanna call it a native client since it's really just a wrapper, but it's in the works.

Not sure if this helps at all, but I'm running EVE on my MacBook Pro using Crossover Mac, and it works like a charm. :)
