I've been doing exploration in 0.0 for some time now with great results. I had always been under the impression that while at a site, I could be scanned out by hostiles who could then warp to the deadspace.
But then I caught a phrase or two on the forums which indicated this wasn't the case. So, which is it? Once you're in an exploration deadspace are you scannable or not?

Just as you can scan for those exploration complexes, so can others. They can also scan for you, but its VERY difficult to find ships in exploration and mission complexes. Nothing however stops them from finding the complex themselves, jumping in and killing you.

Well, right, that's the thing. If you get jumped in 0.0 and you go to a safe spot without a cloak you run the risk of being scanned out. Conventional wisdom says this can happen in under a minute.
Is this the same mechanic that they would use to find you in a deadspace? Ie, suppose your exploration site happens to be within some reasonable range of a stargate. Bad guys jump in, scan you down in the normal fashion. Are they going to appear in your deadspace in the proverbial 60 seconds, or is there some other mysterious mechanic which prevents this from happening as quickly.

In mission deadspaces you are significantly harder to probe out. I'm not sure if this applies to exploration as well.
Personally, if someone starts probing for me, I leave the site immediately because I don't want them to find my site by warping to me. If you set up a few safespots and jump amongst them you'll be safe anyways.

Right, that's what I do. But the kicker is - if you're doing a magnetic site or a radar site and you've hit the trigger - once you warp off the site despawns. For some of them, you can leave an alt cloaked, but for many it's really difficult to find a spot far enough away from a cloud or whatever to actually turn on the cloak.

Mission runners get probed out *ALL* the time in deadspace. Reportedly it's not difficult at all. If you use drones, you'll be scanned down very easily. Is plex deadspace different? Dunno, but I doubt it.
Somebody tells you yuo're unscannable, they probably just want to gank you, and others ike you.

Yes, you can be scanned down in the normal ways in Exploration sites. There seems to be the same penalty on scanning ships in most sites as there is for mission deadspaces. The probably exceptions are Grav sites. I've got little experience with these myself, but reportedly they're unprotected by the effect, by virtue of not being in deadspace.
Anyway, watch local, scan for probes.

In radar and magnetic sites you can`t be scanned even probe results give ship result ...you can`t warp because of fenomenal disorder ..Only way to be scanned is to scan for complexes not for ship

Way easyer than scanning a exploration complex.
Remember that to find a ship in a exploration complex you can use a a quest probe, as it will be within 4 AU from a celestial body. It is slower but extremly more powerful.
Most ship will have a signal strength way larger than the complex they are in, even with the dampenig effects of deadspace.
To make it worse not all the exploration sites are deadspace (gravimetric sites for sure and most of the magnetometric and radar sites I have seen).

its awesome that ships, no matter how small, have a larger sig radius than the massive space installations ccp wants us to spend hours probing down.

I haven't yet seen any mag or rad sites that -aren't- in deadspace, and I've done every losec type. Do you mean that they aren't getting the signal size reduction? * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

LOL...This is so not true. it's completely easy to do.
You run a mission in low sec/0.0 you can be probed, by ship is the easiest way, takes too long with exploration probes.

You can scan ships out in deadspace, it's just harder than usual, quite a bit harder. If you are using drones, it makes it easier though. Maarud.
