I will be moving into a carrier(Thanatos) shortly & I was wondering how these are to be fitted when giving support to small gangs. Are fighters just big drones? Does the carrier dock the same as any ohter ship? How does the Cyno field work?
Alot of questions. I appreciate any & all help.

It's like reading a menu, and skipping to desert, not the pilot going into a carrier but the pirate who eat's the XL-c5 tanked carrier

First thing you need to know, you will lose that carrier sooner or later, second your skills sound like they may not be up to par yet. Might want to wait on the undock until your truly ready.
If you do an eve search you can find lots of setups and a carrier doesn't have a 1 fit works for all engagements setup. You have to fit for the situation.
Cynos do a search for, fighters are technically drones. Big drones, that can follow someone around a system, and do allot of damage against big ships.
Sigs are for losers. Yes this is a sig. |

Thankx for the link Synapse. After 3 yrs in eve I can take the flames. They are like nats on humid summer evenings.
I did buy this acct, however I sold my 30M sp pvp & 18M sp indy alt to get it. Lol, Ogron I may take you up on that.

This isn't a flame, this is helpful advice: If you still have to ask the questions you posted then you're a while off from being ready to fly a carrier. Also, in case you didn't know this, Carriers cannot enter high sec space, they have to stay in 0.4 or lower.

To the op:
Please disregard people saying things along the lines of "if you have to ask you're not worthy to know and will die instantly by just sitting in one". They are either jealous of your carrier or (most likely) just don't have a clue.
Just a general few tips on carriers, off the top of my head: 1. They're mainly support ships - fit a couple of shield or armor transfer modules first and foremost, then as many drone control units/whatever as you can. To this end you should also get your cap recharge rate as high as possible so you can do lots of repping or indeed tanking if you need to - it'll also help you reach 71% for jumping.
2. Carriers lock ships slowly as hell, especially with a damper or ten on you as you'll no doubt have in almost any pvp situation. If you ever plan on actually helping your gang mates you'll need to lock them first - so fit at least one sensor booster. Preferably two.
3. Never fly solo. Start thinking you can solo the whole world just because your thanatos outputs some wicked DPS and you'll get pwned so fast you'll just be sitting there with your mouth hanging open making silly "eeep eep" noises.

Figters are used like drones. However, you can delegate them to friends as well. They follow ppl into warp. Carriers can dock normal, motherships can't. Cyno fields need consumables to work, and make the guy operating it unable to move for some time. You have to be in gang with your cyno pilot before he lights up the cyno.
Work on your jump skills. When you move with capital gangs, everyone should have (near)maxed jump skills. You need to be able to use capital reps and remote reps. These will save your gang mates and yourself more than once.
You have the ability to resupply your mates with ships and mods. This makes you a very valuable asset. In eve, no ship lasts forever. At some point you will lose it, so try to work out some sort of operations to help you get isk faster for replacements. With carriers deploying mining pos is fast and easy, as is supplying them, so you might want to take a look at that. ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

If you're careful, poor & paranoid you will have a good chance to keep that ship alive for a long time.
