Originally by: Zachis I really love the idea you have for low-sec! The changes to local I'm not too keen on, but the rest is top notch. Some of the rewards you have listed seem a little one-sided for the pirates at the moment, so to even out the playing field where risk/reward is concerned...
I would add one other idea into the mix, and that would be to introduce "Letters of Marque" or something equivalent. These be obtainable only in High Sec, say from a Bounty Agent or such, to people with "+" standings and allow them to hunt pirates (read as "-" sec or "Wanted" players)in Low Sec only without taking a security hit. This would allow for true anti-pirate organizations to actually function properly. Give the Bounty agents modules or LP rewards equivalent to the new "pirate" stuff to even it out, let them post the same sorts of missions you outlined as well, but with roles flipped...kicker is these missions should be obtainable in High Sec, but only doable in Low Sec space :)
This way, the player's sec status should take care of the accountability issues, say for anti-pirartes that decided to pirate some unsuspecting person (make the sec hit if they are "Marqued" more severe as well), as well as make it so that pirates who decide to turn on their own kind (aka. Ratting) need to pirate more to be able to use all the pirate goodies/stations.
All combined, you get Faction Warfare (Pirates vs Anti-Pirates) and a functional and desirable Low Sec for both Pirate and Anti-Pirate/Non-Pirate alike. Also makes personal security status mean something.
Nice idea in theory but there is only one kind of pirate. The flashy red kind. You get no sec-status hit for killing us already.
Anything higher than -5 is just a wannabe who can't hack the commitment. They're worthy of your contempt, not you attention. Hell, anyone who isn't -10 needs to try harder or stop lying to themselves bt ratting their sec back up!
A more interesting variation on your theme is that the marque functions similarly to a wardec, in that the possessor becomes a legitimate target for outlaws. This means that anti-pie blobs can't sit on gates and stations if the bad guys are in smaller ships. The trade off would be some form of reward from the marque issuer for every outlaw corpse you bring in. THAT would make lowsec more interesting.

I take offense to that. -1.6 gives me maximum mobility across the galaxy without having to be at an disadvantage with sentry guns.
You don't get to -10 by pirating you get to -10 by f1-f8'ng everything that jumps in regardless of what it may be scouting for and that would make you a low brow trigger jockey.
Maybe just maybe some people like to take a delicate touch as opposed to operating a gattling gun with a blind fold on.
Also I didn't know that being -10 was in the space pirate handbook I must've missed that chapter when you published it
But gatling gun + blindfold = super amounts of fun! And we like to leave potential scouts alone. Sometimes we get freighters instead.
I also prefer to fly smaller ships, so I quite like my idea. Shame not to get much use out of my extensive collection of frigates :( "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |
