I have just graduated to flying a Cruiser and was wondering if I should upgrade to Heavy Missiles or keep using my Lights ? I am still doing level 1 missions and am wondering if Heavy Missiles would be more effective against the Frigates and occasional Destroyer I am fighting ?

A heavy missile has a much larget explosion radius than a light missile, so have a large damage reduction against targets smaller than a cruiser. Use assault missile launchers (not heavy assaults; use the plain old assault missile launchers that fire light missiles) in level one and two missions, since most of your enemies will be frigate-sized.

Light Missiles are more effective against frigates - however, I would suggest that you upgrade to level 2 missions as soon as possible, and you'll need heavy missiles to take down the cruisers in those.

Actually lvl2's is almost all frigates still so again light missiles are far better in lvl2's. It's not till lvl3's where heavies take a lead in dps. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

Yeah, and it doesn't take too much longer to take out the few cruisers you see in Lvl 2s with the assault missile launcher. The vast amount of your enemies will be flying frigates and destroyers, so assaults still work well. ------------------- 4 8 15 16 23 42 108 |

If you can use target painters to increase your targets sig radius heavies maybe a better choice as your cruiser bonuses will probably be aimed at heavy missiles (I'm assuming you're flying caldari).

The Caracal doesn't specify which missiles it gets a bonus for. Assuming the sig radius can be brought up high enough to equal the explosion radius, the heavy missiles will end up doing 60% more DPS.
That would, however, require a bonus of 150% or so, give or take a bit, to the target's signature radius. Easier just to use light missiles in assault launchers.

That's all you can use in them, except maybe Defenders.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Yeah. I'll quote from my first post in this thread: Quote: Use assault missile launchers (not heavy assaults; use the plain old assault missile launchers that fire light missiles)
Economical and highly effective against frigates! Plus you keep the skill you already have trained for your frigate missiles, and don't need a new one.

Why would I use Assault Launchers instead of just keep using Standard Launchers ? A standard Launcher II is just as quick as an Assault Launcher I and uses a lot less power / cpu - although it doesn't hold as many missiles - but that is never a problem for me. Does an Assault Launcher have other benefits that I don't see ?

Because an Assault Launcher II is 20% faster than an Assault Launcher I?
All things being equal (including the quality of your mod, i.e. tech 2), the assault launcher fires 20% faster than a standard launcher. That means 25% more DPS, and it's not like assault missile launchers are expensive. And like I said, their required skills are exactly the same.
