Hi all, I am about to go out of town for a bit, and heard somewhere that you could play eve off a USB memory stick. I would like to learn about this so I might be able to change skills at i-cafes/friends houses, etc.
Besides the obvious copy/paste as you would for playing on SISI, or even just installing the game on the stick, is there anyone thing else I might need to know? The biggest question is about the new locations of the logs and cache, if there are particulars that I would need to know to make it work on a machine that doesnt have EVE installed on it.
If this is the wrong forum for this question, sorry, couldnt find another that seems appropriate, and as always thanks for any help.

I believe all you have to do is copy EVE onto the Flash drive, make a shortcut to the EVE .exe and then add /END LUA:OFF to the target. Or something like that.

Ive had the client loading fine on my work computer by just copy and pasting the eve directory to an external harddrive, so same as a flash stick.
Just make sure the network doesnt block the port eve uses....

thanks guys, pretty much what I was looking for. Suppose the game will make the cache/logs folders on the comp and I can stick my prefs folder and such in there after I log in once.

USB stick is terribly slow though, so an external HDD is probably a better option.

Solid state memory(USB flashdrives) are waaaaay faster than a traditional hard drive. The main issue with running eve on a flashdrive is that they don't particularly like being written/rewritten very many times. However, I've heard of people using them anyways, with great results. Sorry but I can't give any more info because it was on private forums.

thing is, next big patch is very very big... will be more difficult to fit and play from any USB device

go and get a external hard drive. Way better than flash drives and eve works from them. External hard drives aren't that expensive anymore. I personally use a 2,5" one (doesn't need an external power supply and fitts into nearly every pocket \o/ ) |

I use a 4GB and an 8GB USB drive for my work and they were not even that expensive so I don't think space will be an issue - the only game I can think of which won't fit on any flash drives on the market yet is Vanguard - 19GB install!! :)

however, the bigger the game, the more disk access, the slower it loads/runs.

So when you arent allowed to play during work, you just stick that in the machine, and go doing whatever?

this might come as a surprise to people, but i have eve installed on my machine at work, hell it's even got the source code
i use the memory stick for taking the client to a meeting room as they offen don't have the correct sisi build or an upto date TQ build
