I've been playing this game for a life time now (roughly 18 months) and last night I d/l and installed catalyst 4.2 for my Radeon 8500 128MB video card.
This morning when I tried to log in I got a VBU error recovery window. I then tried to shut down EVE by any means possible to no avail. My monitor kept refreshing and the VBU error kept coming up and ATI's software kept recovering from it, on and on. The only way I was able to get out of it was to cold boot. I've been running EVE on the same 8500 card the entire time with countless versions of video drivers and catalyst drivers. This is the first time anything like this has happened.
Anyone else having this problem? I'm going to have to roll back to an older catalyst in hopes that it fixes it...

Aye, unfortunately; uninstalling the driver and installing 4.1 again fixes the problem, but too bad it exists in the first place... :/

Your lucky any of the catalyst drivers work, all the ones ive downloaded have never worked on my rad 9500, comps become very unstable after re-installing the new drivers.

The 4.2's really aren't suited to the 8000 series. I hear they work best on anything at 9600 and upwards. I'm running 4.1 on a 9500.

Edited by: Jimmy James on 25/02/2004 15:10:30 The 4.1 drivers gave me nothing but problems. I had redraw errors on almost everything. Several ship icons and even personal showed up either missing, dark or with out skins. I would come into some systems only to find the stations were completely black, no texturing at all. And my FPS was stupidly slow!
I installed 4.2, ran a couple video FPS tests and found 4.2 to be on average 13-15% faster. I'm thinking of rolling back all the way to 4.0
I smell 4.3 coming....

I just double checked the other night some people where having problems with the nVidia card/drivers. I'm running the 4.2 Cat right now on my 9800Pro not a problem at all at full screen.
In window mode gotta have a internet exploerer window open behind it otherwise it lags like traffic jam. Fear The Bunny

for EVE at least the new cat driver worked beutifully for me on my 9500Pro.
Unfortunatly it completly screwed over my FPS on counterstrike (bizzarly) so I roled back too.
Having tweaked about with the setting some, I might be going back to the new ones again though, cus eve really did look a tonne better.

I havent noticed any probs with Cat 4.2 with my AIW 9600 pro, in Eve or any of the fps I play. They seem to work as good for me as the 4.1 did.

Running 4.1 now. Never had a problem running Eve with this or any previous drivers on my 9700 Pro.
However, 4.1 was the FIRST driver I found that all my games could agree on. I used to keep 4 sets handy (3.1, 3.7, 3.8, 3.10) depending on which game I was playing.
But notoriously unstable Eve ran fine...*shrugs shoulders* --------------

I have no problems with 4.1 on my Radeon 9800 pro 128mb card. Least in eve. I had one error caused by it in Rainbow 6: Raven Shield. But that was just one error out of like 80 hours of play. "I'm comin' for ya, and Hell's comin' with me!" |

I'm still on 3.9 for my 9600XT lol. It works... all my games run fine... so I don't feel like tweaking with something that works, given the Catalyst track record |

Actually that's not a bad idea. I keep a folder with all the Cat& Build numbers, so far all the games om my system run smoothly with 4.1.
Outcast - I still play this / HW 1&2 / JumpGate / Republic
I've come to realise that 90% of problems are generally due to folks system specs rather than the drivers.

4.2 work perfectly on my radeon 9800 pro, never get ctds now and very little graphical lag except in big battles, on full detailed setting.
