They thought an announcment was needed. ( Obviously. ) Two alternatives now: 3a) standard announcment, a normal post from Molle Problem: Would have become a smackfest. The usual thing, Molle announces, people start to smack Molle and BoB, BoB smacks back, BoB doesn't earn respect or make any friends, just get usual responses like 'BoB sucks', no matter how they try to argue in that thread. The usual thing. 3b) a special announcment, like a video, that is just showing, what's going on, BoB/friends losing regions and pulling out. It transfers the message in a more rp'ish way and eve'ish way like, if it was official EVE news. So in a way that people just watch, are happy to see a nice video and get the message without feeling the desire to start a smackfest, but give probs to BoB for creating a nice vid-announcement. That's why I said, choosing option 3b) was quite a good PR decision. I did't comment in any way, why they pulled out, only why I think it was smart to chose option 3b) over option 3a) to announce it. But then, those that are old enough to remember how BoB used to be on the forums, is pretty much how Goons are now, they are both as bad as each other. Bob has just done the smart thing and gone quiet, and as many people's memories are shorter than you'd like to think, support will probably swing in their direction in the long run. Wrong.. history has proven time and time again that silence on the forums is counter productive. I'm not saying that projecting the wrong image isn't damaging, but silence in the long run implies that you are guilty ... of something. When alliance members have to resort to posting with alts to be able to have a voice, then something is bound to go wrong sooner or later. The prime example of this is Fountain Alliance during their demise versus BoB. Those old enough to remember will recall that FA used to post exclusively with alts except for a few chosen mouthpieces such as Baun and Tornsoul.. only to be laughed out of town by BoB for doing so. Alliances that demand a membership forum blackout are having real internal troubles, that may only be visible retroactively with the benefit of hindsight.
