Well if you are like some of my student friends who maxed their Credit cards out and canÆt pay their online subs or simple donÆt have a credit card, I have a solution:
öYou spend on it just like a credit card and can use it wherever MasterCard cards are accepted. Difference is, you load it up with cash before you shop, rather than paying for it after. That means no worrying about bills or interest, and no getting carried away.ö
virgin prepaid master card
No one is refused - no credit check !! you can have one at 13 and its also chipÆnÆpin !

Looks like its the same as Pixpay.
Probably gonna be expensive to use though, they say no interest to pay.. but there must be charges somewhere else.

Edited by: Starfury Shang on 24/10/2007 13:10:40 Nice find. For some people it will be completely pointless, but for others very useful.
Edit: They charge you to "load" the card from certain locations and you pay ú10 one-off fee to have one.

What's so wonderfully new about DEBIT cards ? They've been around almost for as long as Credit Cards, iirc. Any bank should issue you a debit card instead of a credit card if you want to... or is that something so unheard of in <insert name of place you live> ? _

How many Debit card you know have the word "Mastercard" on them? Also, unless things have changed from when I was a lad, under-18's aren't issued with debit cards and only get cash cards.

Yeah they issue debit cards to everyone in this country - just pop in pick one up off the counter sign it use it simple as that.. and they hand them out in the street if you have a bad credit history. Better to carry a big wadd of cash than a card anyway. Better nerf the thread just in case one person may find it usefull -- we could never have that ! Quote of the Month

Unless you've misread this is a PRE-PAID CREDIT CARD meaning that you top it up before hand and it can be used to buy international good without the need of a 3rd party like Paypal. Plus no credit history check = good for students and unemployed or younger people at school. No offence if this sounds abrupt or anything.

My debit card acts as a Visa card. It's fabby, otherwise I wouldn't be able to pay for alot of things online.
So it is possible.

They probably don't need to make charges because they can invest the money that has been paid on to the card, but not yet used.

VISA != Mastercard (however I'll give you the fact that they are generally both accepted together - however a lot of Visa Debit cards are indeed Visa Electron and not Visa Delta. Visa Electron is not as widely accepted as Visa Delta or Visa CC)
Virgin have basically seen a gap and plugged it, hence my original post of "for some people this will be pointless, but for others it will be really useful".

Actually you can get Solo or Visa Electron cards from the age of 16 now (in the UK)

Nice, didn't know that. So for all the places that don't accept those you can use the Mastercard and if you are 13 - 16 you can use that one too.

*ahem* actually, yes, that's pretty much how it works, without the sarcasm part.
If you have an identity card (age 14) over here, then you CAN go to just about any bank, fill out a form, pay something like the equivalent of one dollar (actually, 1.35 USD or thereabouts right now), and come back in a couple of weeks to pick up your VISA or MASTERCARD branded debit card which you can use to pay online with, out of whatever you have deposited... all of it linked to a regular bank account which you can use as such.
Don't tell me where you live it's any different ?!? _

In the UK you have to have a credit check (I did) people with low credit rateing it's a lot harder to get a card where you can use online, otherwise there stuck to the basic ATM card's. ---- \0/ CCP SlideShow Games \0/

That sounds like an useless checking process. I mean, you can't use more than you have on your card already, what's the point of checking for credit history ? It's like asking somebody about his credit history when he's paying you in cash... absurd. _

All I can say is that is incredibly easy compared with when I got my first Current Account (with Debit Card), even though I already had a savings account with my bank, they asked me to bring in my parent's bank statment, my passport and a letter from my college to confirm I was a student there. Even though I had held a savings account with them for 5 years they still wanted all of that.
