My friend's year old alt can passive tank my 1.3k DPS dominix at 60% shields...
All I gotta say is that CCP may have produced an un-killable 1v1 ship...because this thing could prolly tank a mothership

Who gives a **** about DPS?
It's a heavy dictor, it roley is to stop stuff running away.
If it can do that and not get instapopped its a winner. Interesting to see how well its cap can hold the disrupter tho with all them SPR's fitted.

Good point haha,i thought it had used all the med slots for shield mods and left none for the disrupt but i was wrong.

Actually, the Onyx lofty speaks of has exactly the same DPS as a vulture. So it definitely has it's uses. Also realize that this is omni-tanked, if I specify Kin/Therm/Expl as the damage types, my tank can almost double in strength.
It's a tad ridiculous.
Also, for saying it's a floating brick with little DPS, people say that about the Drake, but it still gets used alot. This thing could permatank the station sentries x2 or 3.

From what I understand (I haven't tried them yet), the Minmatar one has a mean passive tank as well, though I don't know how strong it is compared to the Caldari one. The Phobos tanks like crap, and I'm guessing the Amarr one will tank OK if it's setup for nothing but cap regen, or if it's plated, it will last a long while.
The main problem here is that the Onyx I setup costs very little, and is completely cap independent. Any other tanked ship that gets neutralized will be dead on the floor, and plated ships don't tank, they just absorb damage till their plating runs out. This ship tanks the damage, so you have to get past the peak recharge before you can kill it at all, no two ways around it.

The Amarr one, the Devoter looks to have an incredible tank too.
Imagine a Sacrilege with 7 low slots and some extra power grid.
Not sure what to think about the minny or gallente. They seem to rely a bit less on tank given the slot layouts.
Of course the gallente Phobos is pink, so maybe it's just supposed to blind people when they see it so it doesn't need to tank or do damage.

Yeah, when I first saw the fittings for the Onyx I thought "New passive tank! Sweet!". Haven't bothered testing it myself, though, but if you can really tank 1300 DPS to any type you're beating my T2 nighthawk set up.

So it can run that tank and the sphere all at the same time for how long exactly, and do how much DPS itself?
These are the questions that need answers.

Think of it as the same exact tank as a passive Vulture, with enough grid to fit 4 Large Shield Extenders and 5 Heavy Missile Launchers. The base shield resists with the skills to fly the ship are:
EM: 25 Therm: 85 Kin: 78 Expl: 70
With my midslot setup (besides the 4 LSE IIs) consisting of a passive EM hardener II and either an Invul II (which is sustainable for a very long time) or another passive EM II, I end up with resists of:
EM: 66.8% Therm: 90% Kin: 85% Expl: 80%
I have a shield recharge rate of 200 seconds, and 15,000 total shield HP.
My problem is that this ship is not skill intensive at ALL. All you need to be able to fly is Heavy Assault Cruisers to pilot this ship, and you can instantly train Heavy Interdictors. When the tank on this is as strong (if not stronger because of the signature radius) than a Vulture command ship, then there is something wrong with it. This will become the new passive monster if left alone, and I have a feeling anyone who runs missions would use one for something like a COSMOS complex, because with just T2 equipment, you can tank the full aggression of the entire COSMOS spawn indefinitely.
The damage is not stellar, but it's no worse than a vulture fitted for passive tanking, and actually is a slight bit better vs. smaller ships due to the missile velocity bonus. Please also note that my shield compensation skill on SiSi at the moment is at a whopping lvl 1, so anyone who has trained that to V (and they should) will be getting an even stronger tank than what I have.

I am not sure about how long the disruptor could run with a completely passive setup, since I don't have the skill to use it yet. I will post the results in a few days when I have Gravitron Physics to IV.
-Cephas
EDIT: And I also only have EM Compensation on SiSi to lvl 1.

Well when I first saw the Onyx spec on the dev blog, I thought it will be a mean HAM ship. But considering it's primary purpose as dictor, you are quite right. I expect it will get nerfed before it hits TQ.

The problem with these ships is that they wont be much used in 0.0 as you can achieve the same with a quick interdictor. In small gangs these will just be a expensive HAC that dies very fast :S Tho, if CCP change the dictor as talked about here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=621529 and for instance only let the launched dictor bubbles work say 30 sec to 1 min instead of 3 mins, then these ships clearly will have its uses :)

Minnie one is pretty mean too. In the time it took my Gank Harby (800 DPS) to kill it, I was well into structure and almost out of cap boosters
Those kind of passive setups are particually annoying, but I wouldn't say they were overpowered. Most don't even have a point, and when they do... they don't have a Web, or an MWD. And when they have all 3, they drop like a brick ---
