Problem: You warp to a gate, have to wait until everything around you loads, and before you finish loading, you are already dead because someone or something blew you up. It is really aggravating and has happened to many people that I know, and it really upsets people because they never get a chance to respond.
How to fix it:
Once you warp into an area, make it so that you get 10 to 12 seconds of invulnerability and the inability to attack or use anything that effects another player. During that period, you should also not be able to jump through a gate.
That way, you have time to respond, and gate campers would still have the chance to kill you. You would not be sitting there waiting to load only to find out that you are already dead.
Think of it as coming back into phase from your warp fully if it makes you feel more warm and fuzzy about it :)
Just an idea. I mentioned it before, but I don't think the right eyes managed to see it. I can't tell if this was already posted because I can never search the boards without getting a SQL error, so fogive me if someone else thought of this already.

Funny, I mentioned the same thing on the EVE-I.COM boards myself :) Give the person time to at least overcome the lag. If you do, at least he has the chance to fight back or possibly warp away in terror. Seems like a simple solution to me.

There is already a 10 second peroid of invulnerability when comming out of warp/gating/undocking. The problem is that the lag often lasts much longer than 10 seconds giving Pirates and unfair advantage. I think the real solution is to allow the client to finish loading the new location before the server places the ship in the new location. Right now everyone at gate sees your ship from 5-20 seconds before the client loads all the new area data. Reverse this process. Load all the new area data on the client then let everyone else know I am there.

Ah yes MB, simple but elegant. And most probably not implemented. Stellar Products and Quality Resources ticker: SPQR established 6-03 |

Yeah, but then you might have people killing other ships before they seem them load. You would have the reverse problem. Instead of the person warping in being at a disadvantage, the person waiting there would be.
It is still more desirable than today's problem though. Almost anything beats what we have now.

Actually I don't think the problem would still be ther if it was reversed. Anyone already at the location only needs to load 1 new ship as opposed to when a player warps in having to load ALL the new area content, which includes ships, gate/station loot cans and so forth.

A short one, but IMPORTANT: It is implemented, since quite some time ago. Thats the reason why you get the "sensors aligning, unable to lock" message after warping in a belt and trying to target something. You cant harm em, they cant harm you. It is there after every jump and warp, and afaik login. It was mentioned in the patch notes the time it came up.
The problem is: the loading time for many people is longer than 10 seconds, up to 30 seconds. 30 seconds invulnerability would annoy us all as hell and is no option, so the above stated solution to the problem is faulty, and btw already in place.

i agree with mindbender this soulution means that no matter what computer spec you have you can never get killed before you have loaded this also means there is no arguments or upsets about dying before you are actualy there.

Or find out where the data transfer is bottle-necking...I d/l data at a rate of 2.1 mbps to 2.3 mbps..i should load instantly, and I am sure many other people have nice broadband connections, unless... (remember their advertising: dialup players will have the same chances as others)
They might be purposely limiting the amount of data transfer to equalize the dialup and boradbank players. They stated that the equality is because of the low data transfer needed, but if that were the case...no one would have this issue.

well what u could do is that when ur cloaked after jumping a gate u cant be locked or seen by anyone. that wya u can wait till the right moment
we all kno that moving locking or using a module uncloaks so that would be fair if gatecampers couldnt see u so they wouldnt be able to lock u when ur cloaked after a jump. as for load killers make it so u dont actually appear after the jump until the game has loaded.
