I just went down to the lunch room (My place of work has a cafeteria :)) and they had a series of buffalo/chicken wings. So while eating it I started thinking about chicken wings, and how they were the product of a lady that had a whole bunch of left over chicken wings and her son's college buddies wanted something to eat. Traditionally people threw them away, but she deep fried it and gave them some hot sauce and they ate it.
But I'm wondering if Europeans eat Buffalo wings as well or is it just American Gluttony?

We have them in the UK, but I don't like the manky leftover bits of meat. If I'm going to each chicken, I'll have the breast. No spindly legs or other bits either.

Edited by: Rialtor on 26/10/2007 18:06:40 I dunno, maybe it's just cultural brainwashing, but I find wings awesome :). Tasty little snack, lots of variety, and it tastes very different than any other part of the chicken due to it's lankiness.
Gotta get some wings on fight night, the superbowl, I guess it's mainly an American guy thing :).

I'm American, and hate wings with a passion for reasons stated above. I can get a breast, or something made up of breast meat for just as much money. --------

A buffalo wing is just a hot chicken wing to the best of my knowledge. Which isn't much knowledge admittedly!

Oh sorry, hadn't thought that people wouldn't know what a "buffalo wing" was. Just goes to show you the disconnect :). But yes a buffalo wing is a chicken wing with hot sauce on it. The story I said in the original post, was in a diner that was owned by the family of the college kid and it was located in Buffalo.
The kids liked it so much that they added it to their menus, and it caught on quick :).

I'm not sure why the fixation on wings really. But they're awesome :P.
I hate blue cheese on everything else but hot wings. I even kind of hate it on the hot wings, but I dip it anyway :).
You all need to rethink your chicken wing habit if you don't like them. You guys need to eat some good chicken wings it'll change your life :D.

But breast meat is so detached from wings. It's really not close to the same chicken experience :). The breast is all well and good, but the wings have their own merit as well. It's not just inferior to the breast :).

I personally think that chicken meat is too dry the deeper it goes, its fine on the leg and wing, but the breast is just too dry for my taste. So I prefer legs, since they have more meat, but wings are OK too, you just need more of them.

Britsh player here and i agree wth this the legs and wings are juicy andtast but the breat is dry and hard to swallow and chew. I think its due to modern farming because if you buy a freally good organic one fed on organic stuff it tends to be juicier and more tender.
Anyway i tend to have the hot wings from KFC and sometimes i amke a chillie sauce to cook them in and to dip them in at the end.
Never considered a blue chees dip tho i may try it sometime. Also the name Buffalo wings isant a familuar tem in the UK but i understand it now.

Edited by: Rialtor on 26/10/2007 23:36:21 Edited by: Rialtor on 26/10/2007 23:36:02 Well the breast being dry has alot to do with cooking technique, and the fact that it's white meat.
Dark meat has more fat content and that generally makes things less tough. White meat can be very delicious and tender, you just have to prepare it correctly.
Wings are also a form of white meat, but they suffer less from this issue since as noted it's alot of skin7 with less meat than a dense chicken breast. Skin holds a higher fat content, so when you cook a wing it comes out more tender since the fat content is higher than the breast, even though the meat is similiar.
Edit: lol you can say breast, but not the plural

I dunno, I'm a skeptic on that. Deep frying random stuff can only come from the South. They Deep Fry Turkeys down there, yes they have Fryers that big. I've always wanted to try it though :).

I hate chicken skin, and therefore, find eating chicken wings troublesome at best. Therefore, I prefer chicken breast, followed by chicken everything-else-but-wings. And preferably boiled or oven-cooked, not fried in oil. Chicken breast schnitzel, ok, that one I like fried _

Well you can take the skin off, I was just explaining that the breast can dry out quickly due to lack of fat. Just like when you cook/bake fish, if you leave the skin on you can have more of the natural oils/fats soak flavor the food. You can later take it off if you don't like it.
But chicken wings taste nothing like chicken skin after you get through with em :).
