I have been earning isk by salvaging using a thrasher destroyer (I know the cat is better but I did not want to skill to it right now).
Would purchasing a selvage Tackle rig improve my results? I vahe raised my salvage skill to 3 but it would help to start making more money if possible. The cost of the Salvage Tackle is high at 14,500,000 isk. IS it worth it?
Thanks!

Salvage tackle rigs only increase the odds that you will get a successful salvage on a given attempt. It will not increase the value of the salvage itself, nor get you more of the better salvaged materials.
With that out of the way: Your most cost efficient way of increasing your chance to salvage is to train Salvage to IV or V. Once you do that, then you could hypothetically consider doing adding the rigs.
The real question is, do you use the same ship all the time? Do you need to plow through a large amount of wrecks? Are you bottlenecking your income simply because you are not salvaging fast enough to get to the next mission? If so, then it would be a decent investment.
Ideally, you have all the npc's surrounding you and dying @ 20km or less, then you come in and scoop everything with a 5 tractor / 3 salvager setup; or perhaps with Salvage V and rigs, maybe even a 2 salvager/6 tractor setup? I haven't seen anything like that yet... Re vera, potas bene. |

Is it worth it?
I'd say that all depends on how much 14.5 mil ISK means to YOU.
There are some players for whom that amount of ISK is trivial.
I'm not one of them ... but I'm closer to being one of them than I was a few months ago.
Another question is ... how much is the BPO for that rig and how much salvaging have you done already?
Salvage enough ... and you can make one yourself.

One rig significantly improved the rate of success - well worth the investment imo
You should consider, like Vivian says, building your own but buy a researched bpc on the market. You should save 2-3 million building your own. Likewise, you will make more money if you sell rigs rather then the components.

fitting 2x or 3x salvage tackles can dramatically reduce the time you spend salvaging a wreck field .Salvaging 4 gives you 20% of succuess on a given salvage cycle, with 3x Tackles you boost that to 50%, which is nothin to sneeze at. Fewer cycles to clear the wrecks = processing more wrecks per hour = more iskies in your pocket. They'll pay for themselves over time (and if you're already salvaging, may as well invest the few hundred K in a BPO and jus build em yourself with the parts you collect)
If nothing else, you can always sell off your rigged ship and get an unrigged one if you change your mind and pocket the difference - When I upgraded to a Cyclone as a salvager I sold off my rigged Thrashers and Exquerors within a day with no problem.
