Call me stupid, but didn't ccp start prices for Zydrine at 1024 and Mega at 4096isk? Why is it 3k and 8k now? Why was it 4k and 14k two weeks ago? Oh prices dropped so quickly in two weeks? Good, get prices back to where they should be.
It's rediculous, but necessary, for there to be bottlenecks in the eve universe. But for 2 or 3 ships to block off 3 or more regions worth of valuable mining area, that's way too unbalancing. That's how mega/zyd got to the prices you see and saw before.
The only people suffering are the new players, or those experienced that remain in empire systems, where the best ore you can hope to find is hemorphite or hedbergite, which is only just slightly more valuable, but highly more risky to mine now, than scordite. You won't mine for megacyte or zydrine in empire space, so if you need it, you have to purchase it.
Corps capable of mining the 16m3 ores, they don't need isk. They loot all the rare drops, instead of buying them on the market. They mine all the minerals they need to build/replace their losses. What do they need isk for? Oh I know, to hand out contracts to noobs for mining minerals they need tons of, pyerite/tritanium, so they don't have to. You see? It takes just as long to mine a can of veldspar as it does arkanor, yet the value of time spent is a hundred fold. In other words, for every hour you spend mining arkanor, you can hire 100 people to mine veldspar. That's alot of people for one person to control. Oh the price of tritanium is 150% higher than it was two weeks ago? So you can only control 50 people. Boo hoo.
So, what are you proposing? What you're proposing is a periodic price floor, well fine, then there should have been a periodic price ceiling too. Megacyte at 14k? Are you kidding me?
It's really too bad they didn't have the stockmarket implemented before they added these new jumps to the game, which is why the price of mega is dropping. Many more people have access to deep space. I would have been rich now. But heck, I'm just sitting here mining Scordite for my first battleship, and I'm loving the drop in prices of inaccessible minerals. My Megathron is going to cost 35mil isk to build instead of 55 it was last week.
If you want prices to go up again on minerals, you need to organize your corp alliance to go and foil the mining activities of your rivals. You need to form a cartel with your alliance corps. With the new outer region jumps, this is not unattainable.
This is how a player run economy works. It's, as you say, high school economics. Nothing you say will stop it. It's like standing in front of a bloodthirsty mob saying, "Ok people, it would be a bad thing to takeover this country, we are only going to suffer because of it." Take over that country they will. You think anyone is listening? The people selling their items, aren't.
