About four days ago, my EvE would log in (authenticating etc..) but after that it would not do anything...then after about 30 seconds this prompt appears.
"The client's local session information is corrupt, probably as a result of failed cleanup during a disconnect. Connecting to the server in this state could lead to a rather unpleasant game experience. Please restart the client prior to logging in."
I cleared my cache and the EvE folder in My Documents, still the same.
I have now re-downloaded the full client, reinstalled it, making sure the CCP folder from program files, and EvE folder from my documents are deleted.
Still the same, any help please?

This started happening to me today. I click on the Eve exe type in user/pass and hit 'connect'. Authentication/bulk data etc progression window comes up, and then nothing... I tried clearing the cache, uninstalling/reinstalling and deleting all Eve related files and nothing works, it just won't let me get to the character selection screen.
If I hit connect again after trying to log on I get the same ""The client's local session information is corrupt, probably as a result of failed cleanup during a disconnect. Connecting to the server in this state could lead to a rather unpleasant game experience. Please restart the client prior to logging in." as you.
Now, I do have two Eve accounts. Strangely I can log onto my second account with no delays AND on my other PC which shares the same internet connection, my problem account works as well. If I attempt the log on to my problem account with the other PC (the one that seems to work fine) while I'm waiting for something to happen with the log on with this system, the log-on on this system gets disconnected. So it seems a connection is made but for some reason it isn't going to the character selection screen.
Why would an account not work on one system, but work on another, and why would one account log-on successfully and another not, on the same system? Any help much appreciated.

yeah, I'd say the SISI install messed up some files initially. As I've found and as was mentioned on another thread, if you back up your important folders, then go thru and delete everything Eve related in the docs and settings/user place, you should be good to go. A reinstall won't work properly without those files removed it seems.

This works great, except I lose all my local client settings. Everything, including portraits already downloaded, in-game browser bookmarks/settings.
Is there a way to get that back if I made a copy of the original CCP folder? Without reverting to broken state of course.
I tried copying back the CCP\Eve\Settings folder but that left me hanging again.
If it was just a matter of re-joining chat channels I previously had open, it wouldn't bother me much. As it is, I have lost a lot of browser bookmarks, and other locally stored settings that I have been working on for a year to make the interface more manageable.

Edited by: Blue Ryth on 09/11/2007 01:13:58 I've done a bit of digging here after arriving at the same problem:
"The client's local session information is corrupt, probably as a result of failed cleanup during a disconnect. Connecting to the server in this state could lead to a rather unpleasant game experience. Please restart the client prior to logging in."
Here's what I've discovered: 1.) This is a problem caused by the Singularity patch. I've managed to duplicate the results. This happens regardless of a 'backup' copy, or installed on a separate partition. The affected files are local. So if the same user installs the patch, it will break any Tranquility builds for that user. Singularity builds remain unaffected.
2.) This problem can occur on both XP and Vista. I don't know why.
3.) If you've arrived at this problem but still want to test Singularity, here is my suggestion. Create a new user on your computer. Install EVE to a new directory, and apply the Singularity patch there. **I cannot confirm this works**
The FIX:
To preserve as much data as possible (browser cache, character pictures, etc.) only a select few files must be deleted.
For Windows XP users:
1.) Make visible hidden files and folders. From any explorer window menu: Tools > Folder Options. Then select the "View" tab. In Advanced Settings select Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply.
2.) Navigate to: Local Disk > Documents and Settings > Your User > Local Settings (**Hidden folder**) > Application Data > CCP > EVE > settings
In this folder, delete all files with the prefix "user_"
For Windows Vista users:
1.) Make visible hidden files and folders. From any explorer window menu: Tools > Folder Options (If the menu bar is not available, press the Alt key). Then select the "View" tab. In Advanced Settings select Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply.
2.) Navigate to:
Local Disk > Users > Your User > AppData (**Hidden Folder**) > Local > CCP > EVE > settings
In this folder, delete all files with the prefix "user_"

It's my guess that only one of the user_* data files is the culprit here, but the naming convention of the files is such that I don't believe its the same for everyone. If you want to keep as many settings as possible, I'd delete them one at a time and keep trying to log in (you will have to relaunch the client each try).
If this doesn't work, your problem is likely not the same. Sorry . But go ahead an delete the entire CCP folder just in case if you'd like.
EDIT: This should probably find a home in the new 'Windows' forum, if someone would be kind enough to move it there. I could always just make the new thread as well.
It seems that it's the SiSi install/patch corrupting some data in the user_.dat file. When you patch any of the Eve installs, Eve seems to create a new version of this file and makes a backup copy with a cryptic numeric suffix like user_1234567.dat. To revert back, delete the user_.dat file, look at the timestamps of the backup .dat files and rename the pre-patch backup (it will have a date/time = to the time of the patch) to user_.dat. If you just delete the user_.dat file Eve recreates it from the most recent backup when it starts, though that may not be the correct version if you have re-patched again as part of your troobleshooting.
The suggestion to only run SiSi as an alternate user would seem to fix this issue (not sure if it's actually a patch bug or just unplanned behavior), as each user has their own "C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\" folder.
Hope this helps alleviate some frustration. I know I've had some over this.

This worked for me. Thank you! Now I just have to redo all my settings. Hello CCP! You may want to fix this since it's happening to anyone trying to help you test singularity. Or at least sticky the thread... _______________

Ok, a little bit more to add. At least for Vista, the alternate user for the SiSi client works like a charm. I'm hoping to check on XP soon, as well. For those of you having this problem, its the most painless solution, in my opinion.

Edited by: Bimjo on 12/11/2007 14:03:19 Edited by: Bimjo on 12/11/2007 14:02:35 same thing happened to me on Vista and SiSi.
the solution, so as you can use SiSi and Tranq, is to always back up a GOOD version of your Cache before you go into SiSI
as an example, mine is on C:\USERS\*my logon name*\AppData\Local\CCP I backup everything in the CCP folder once a month.
I went on SiSi and then when I tried Tranq it would hang, so I deleted all in my CCP folder(as above, NOT the CCP program file) and installed my backup settings, took 2 mins

I have a similar problem.
The Tranquility server crashed tonight and now I can't acess my main character (my sencondary ones are fine and work as normal).
I've never used the test server though so will this fix work in my case?
Plus will this lose the character or will I retain the character and all the skills, ships, money etc gained so far.
Help....

Your character is saved server-side, your preferences are saved locally. So, in short, no you cannot lose your character. Also, if you've never installed the Singularity client, I doubt this fix will work. You can try if you feel so inclined.

For those having problems with SiSi, read this: (linky)
Originally by: Hunter.
We have made a few adjustments to the login screen and removed the server drop down box.
To be able to connect to singularity you have to create a shortcut from the eve.exe file and add this to the target input in the shortcut : /end /server:87.237.38.50
and /end /LUA:OFF /server:87.237.38.50 for vista users
This would then look something like this(different between client locations) :
"C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\client\eve.exe" /end /server:87.237.38.50
Hope that explains it well enough.
I use /end /LUA:OFF for all my clients on XP

This is somewhat of a bump for this issue/workaround as I see it will happen more when people see they can try the new client on SiSi (the patching that caused the error for me).
I did the workaround as described (deleting the CCP folder under local settings), and it worked. Now wishing that I had known this before plowing through 5 different install/uninstall sequences with all sorts of variations. ;) This was achieved on WindowsXP 32-bit for your info.
Only an hour and a half till skill change too... :) --- lol.. I messed up.
