You want to mine? you use mining ships.
You want to pew pew? You use pewpew ships
You want to do exploration? you use either specialized frigates or convert Ops.
You want to salvage? you use destroyers...
I think it's time for CCP to introduce a new specialized ship for salvaging and tractoring.
It could have a big cargo hold (around 2000-3000m3), tractor beams bonus (range and speed) and one idea that i personally bealive it's great:
A special ability capable of taking out implants or even other items (like salvaging does to wrecks) from frozen bodys!!!
This special ability would need some skills (level 1 skill = +1 imps).
So what da ya think eve community?

What's wrong in using destroyers for salvaging? It's not like the name means you HAVE to use it for destroying things. You aren't JUST cruising around in a cruiser, are you?

Please don't take away the salvaging role from destroyers, they would be left without a purpose

One problem with destroyers for salvage and loot is that they often just don't have enough space - especially in level 4s.
I support the idea of a small (3000m3?) industrial-type ship with 8 highslots but no turret or launcher slots. The trouble is that other offensive modules can fit in these slots, so abuses might be possible.
The other part of this would be a change of design for the highslots. At the moment, there are turret, launcher and utility slots. The new list would be turret, launcher, combat utility and utility - the last of these for tractors and salvagers (maybe probe launchers as well?) only. Of course, this would mean changing the database structure, and every ship and highslot module in the game.
Another thing that might help this and quite a lot of other things would be a collapsible cargo can - the same size as a giant when deployed, but maybe 100-200m3 when packed for transport. Then you just drag the thing around while you're looting.
Finally, a Covetor or Hulk might do fairly well in the salvage role - but they are both too damned expensive and skill-intensive for a job like this.

nothin atall wrong with that. personally, i use a cruiser, but i am aware that a destroyer's greater number of high slots can make for a more effective salvager.
i would like to see a t2 destroyer type that gets salvage bonuses, and we've seen the idea posted all over this site a number of times. perhaps when a tier two destroyer comes in they could make such a ship. of course, using a tier 2 destroyer would mean you wouldn't need to make a tech 2 version in order to create a ship with salvaging bonuses. ========================================== Iy

Besides beeing skill-intensive, they are also damn slow
The ship could just be abble to use tractors and salvage beams, so no one would use offensive modules.
PS: I want my SVS! (space vacuum ship)

T2 BS (Marauders) fill this role perfectly. Large cargo, tractor beam bonus, fun. -----------------------------------------------------

One thing is missing from this ship that your brainwashing... If the ship has no turret or launcher hardpoints it would need something to protect itself.
I would suggest 50m3 Drone capacity for x2 Ogres.
...you know this is actually a great idea, CCP should bring this one onboard. Another factor to consider with this new ship is rig slots. Also if your salvaging after completing a mission in your PvE ship, you would have to go back and undock...so...could it be possible to actually have some sort of large heavy drone inside your PvE ship rather than making a new ship...make a 'Salvaging Drone'.
[I also think I seen a similar thread last week somewhere in 'Ideas']
