Now i'm gonna get back to "YARRING" it up shortly, but as it's been quite a long time I was wondering if the solo piracy option was still viable or not?
Already scouted potential systems, but have noticed that there seems to be a serious lack of solo pilots floating about now!!
So would i be better off joining a pirate corp or giving the solo thing a bash for a while ?
btw, My piracy involves true piracy.. i.e. lock em down, ransom.. they pay, let em go, they don't.. KABLOOM that is unless they have interesting cargo, then they just pop * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Always ready to perform!!!! *cough*

It's possible. But hard, join a pirate corp if you wanna yarr it up in low sec. OR you could try out high sec piracy where solo work can be very lucrative.

It's certainly possible, but IMO, it's much more fun to fly around in a small gang. Get yourself into a decent Corp and you'll have way more fun.

It's kinda hard. 90% times its a trap (Cruiser/BC bait with 10 guys warping in or declocking) the other 10% its a solo/stupid noob where you just know you are killing him in his first Cruiser or BC (which does not make me fell very happy or satisfied). I found out that the best solo piracy can be found in 0.0 (lowsec is just too full of traps).

Ishtar can solo really good. Fast, nice tank, heavy dmg.
Find a corp thats roams in 0.0 and low sec. Low sec loot is amazing if you kill the red fruits
0.0 is also good but the loot is crap most of the times but you ll find many targets.
...Solo is boring m8, find some good pvp company and go out there and enjoy.

solo piracy is viable and very fun. If you keep ransoming you could probably turn a profit doing it, you're gonna lose ships to blobs or if your intended victim manages to kill you, but you learn alot from it. Join a pirate corp so you can go after some bigger targets or call for backup when you got something interesting locked down in a belt, you can still run around solo when you feel like it even though you're in a corp.

Really? A lone Ishtar in lowsec. You might as well hang your squishy bits out the window and ring the diner bell. Step into the wrong system and you'll have some roaming gang (ie. couple drakes, and an absolution... whatever) pop up and eat the little Ishtar. High sec mission ganking for instance is plenty fun, and can make some decent isk.

If you wanna go solo it's all about the location. Lowsec solo in a hyperion is a lot of fun, or just stick near the highsec/0.0 border systems and you'll be more or less ok. Or if you're confident in your skills, hop into an arazu and head deep into 0.0 and gank some npc'ers :)

Edited by: Mr Bodacious on 28/10/2007 07:24:07 Solo pvp is not viable, but possible.
You won't turn a profit, no matter what you do, unless you get lucky.
edit: imo, its the most fun and I swear by it. I do enough gang pvp and small group pirating that I make enough money to lose a couple ships in the name of fun.

Buff lowsec, nerf nanofits slightly.
Specialised speed/nanoships should be capable of annoying the crap out of people still but it's silly waching a Typhoon do 3km/s.

Id say i solo 90% of the time in low sec. But im usually doing it in specialized ships (Speed hac/recons) or fun mess around ships like inties.
Tbh it depends where your pirating, how big the targets are and what the local resident pirates are like. You could always move whenever a big group comes in ------------------------------------------------ You can kill the protester but you cant kill the protest ------------------------------------------------ |

Solo piracy is very much viable but only certain ships are viable and imo best profits are still found in 0.0 for solo work.
Either you need to fly something :
Fast enough to get away when things go **** up
Something cloakable to chose engagments and get away when things go **** up
Something so cheep (Tech 1 frigates) that you wont realy be noticed on scans and people wont try and blob you.
Or a combination of any of the above
The key is the ability to disengage when a blob comes or things dont go your way or a ship so cheep that you wont care when they do.

Most of my kills are solo in a rifter, changing my new flagship to the trasher. I scan out everything before I attack and make sure I get a good idea who's ganged up and who isn't. Most of this is in very active systems. I've noticed theres alot of other people doing the same thing so basically we're hunting each other. Important thing is I realize I won't make money of it and I have to fly ships I can easily lose. Soloing for me is alot of fun because I'm not out to pad killstats or make money just pvp after work

yes, im a merc. however, started my career as a pirate and the blood still flows.
i decided to roam low sec solo in my trusty mega. missed several catches, primarily a nighthawk (supid warp in points) and had a nice 1 vs 1 with a dominix who nicely agressed me.
later on i find myself in a system, a drake and maller vs maller in a belt. brave soul i am went to help out, unfortunately the maller popped before i arrived.
i got to the belt and found 2 drakes, maller, cerb and i think* another ship,
popped both drakes with ease, but the damn maller kited me at 22k ish whilst the cerb pummled me down slowly.
i loaded up null, popped the maller and made it out with 16k armor left, had a nice lil chat and went on my buisness.
point being, its alive and well. just rare

Course I fly a vaga, but meh.

Why I lol'd when I read this post, I also disagree with it completely.
Nano-ishtar is one of the best ships in the game atm, and can easily escape anything short of a Vaga/Rapier/Huginn, and has some VERY nice damage to boot.
Of course, said damage is getting nerfed in the near future, so I wouldnt invest it one.
Tbh if you want lowsec solo you'll need a Vaga, a Huginn, one of their T1 variants (bellicose is actually quite a good solo ship), or a heavy Tank BS. Or a myrm, but that goes without saying. --

Agreed. You'd have to be crazy to fly an Ishtar around lowsec solo. And if you see one in local, best to ignore it, those things are next to useless.

It's also important to know certain Ships, their abilities and likely set ups when soloing. You need to pick your fights carefully.
I mean,it would be bad if you mistook an Ishtar for an Ishkur.

Having fun? Yes. Getting rich? No.
I did it for a long time. You also have to realize that 1 in 10 kills, at a maximum, are gratifying, the rest are noobs. I'd get 250 or so kills a month strictly doing belt piracy in a Malediction (no sniping, the snipers I knew easily got twice the kills I did).
I also did some sentry tanking in a Geddon. It was pretty fun. You wait wait wait, then you shoot something and the fun begins, often times I'd warp back to a gate while I was still under a timer and see what I could take out. I never used stabs but I only lost one Arma to a well orchestrated trap (killed the wrong dude and he came back with friends). Solo piracy in a BS takes balls.

I think we are forgetting about the Deimos, with it's mass reduction and speed increase you can now get one to go between 4 and 5K with medium to very good skills, some rigs and a few select hardwirings. You also get 5 T2 Neutrons a T2 web and scramble, then fit drones for damage or EW.

Links in my sig, just made a new one (LEGENDARY III), also, search for solo Hype piracy vid, solo Ishtar and solo Lachesis/Arazu.
