I was wondering what the effects of ships needing fuel in EVE would be. A similar fuel usage as POS (racial isotopes etc) but scaled for the various ship classes. Frigates needing very little and capitals vast amounts. This would introduce running costs for ships that might help to limit the ever growing numbers of capitals being fielded and make smaller ships more economical. Also it might make the types of ships used in areas fall more in line with the fuels available. Maybe even make it easier to fuel a POS as the wide need for fuels might lead to better distribution of refined isotopes? What will it do to the market?

I'm guessing from the lack of posts this is regarded as a bad idea? Can someone at least say why?

Most of us REALLY don't want another thing to pack into cargoholds already filled with Ammo, Cap 800s, and soon, Scripts. Logistics is annoying enough already. And if this stuff is to be refined from ice cubes, then you would need to buff ice a LOT to keep up with the demands of large ships. Otherwise, POS fuel costs are definitely going to RISE, due to the greatly increased demand. Traders are not going to cart freighter loads of fuel across empires for no profit, fuels not native to the region will be marked up.
And the concept of getting that much fuel out to deep 0.0 outposts would make alliance logistics directors. . . annoyed is putting it mildly. Also, want to get stranded out in some random system with no fuel? What happens then?
Trust me, people are not going to stop using BS/tier 2 BC for L4 missions, and they are not going to stop using Dreads to bash POS, because they are the best tools for the job. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Sounds fair enough. What if it was automatic? You dock and get refueled, and presented with a bill.
Would it still increase fuel movement as stations would be buying it?
You kinda got me on the whole running out bit. that wouldn't be fun.
I'm guess i was thinking along the lines of getting the traders to do more of the logistics buy creating more incentives. Like you said caps will still be used, but if their fuel costs are high then wouldn't that limit their use somewhat( and spread the isk a little more)?

Capitals already need fuel to jump around...
No need to make a new hassle for the average player.
Also , anything that promotes staying docked / cloaked at a safespot is bad. Roamers are essential to the Eve experience.

Only way I would support this idea is if no-cyno-needed jump drives were added to all subcapital ships and the fuel was used for those.
Otherwise it does nothing but burden players needlessly.
