Hi all, well I tried ever about a year ago but was to addicted to another MMO I played. So now I am bored to high hell of that I am looking to start on Eve. I have read a thread which briefly went in to different types of ship etc but I still have questions.
Obviously I want to make money, but I play MMO's to PvP. So from what I gather I could start out by mining getting some cash and research more PvP orientated skills? Please correct me if im wrong.
Also the starting chars I noticed there are so many different things. I mean you have the 4 base races, then you can choose between 3 different things cant remember the names of these. Then once you chosen this you then assign 5 attribute points and then get to choose 1 of another 3 things! Do my choices here play a big impact in the game I play? Or do these choices not really matter?
The race I chose was Minmatar, reason being is a read this It can mount 3 turrets and 1 launcher has good shields and armour and is also fast compared to other brutes.
Now it can not have drones, is this a big deal?
Any help or advice is most welcome.
Thanks,
Tash

Your attribute points are the only thing that are really important when you make a character, if you are looking at combat you'll generally want in order of highest to lowest:
Perception, willpower, intelligence, memory, charisma.
Even then you can boost these in game with the learning skills and implants.
Your race is mainly just graphical since you can train for any ship and fly it. An Amarrian can fly a Rifter just as well as a Matar for example if they train all the skills.
Most frigates can't have drones, there are only 1 or 2 that can (I can't remember off the top of my head), and as I mentioned if you want more drone action you can just cross train to Gallente.
Personally when I started I made my isk from level 1 missions, i've never touched a mining laser in my life, then I moved to level 2 missions and so on. ---------

Any race can train any skill, race and profession just determines your attributes (train time modifiers) and starting skill package.
For money I'd just do missions, since most of your starting skills are in combat already.

From character creation, the only really important part are your attribute points. You'll want to make sure they are all at roughly the same level. (Maybe a bit lower in charisma) The fields that affect your distribution of attribute points are choice of bloodline, ancestry, and the 5-point assignment part.
Your choice of race doesn't affect the ships you can fly, it just dictates what skills you start with. For example, as a Minmatar you start with the ability to fly Minmatar frigates, but nothing keeps you from flying over to Amarr space, buying the Amarr Frigate skill, and start flying Amarr ships.
Your choice of career is pretty much irrelevant in the long-term. You can train any skill in the game, so at any time you can change your career. The skills you start with are equivalent to 1 month of training for an average character. Since you state you play MMOs for the PvP, I'd recommend going for the soldier career and get some income by doing missions, or killing NPC pirates, as you train towards more PvP-oriented ships and equipment.

First of all welcome to Eve.
Your atribute points are important, but not massivly so. Choosing the "wrong" ones now won't stop you playing or enjouying the game later on. All skills in Eve have a primary and secondary atribute that affect how fast you learn that skill. A skill such as Astrogeology that has Intelegence and memery will train faster if your Int and Mem atributes are higher. Your atributes can be raised throughout the game through 2 methods, the first is permanent (unless you die without a clone) and involves training the skills listed under "learning" in the market. The second is implants, whilst the lower end implants that can give you 1,2 or 3 extra attribute points. implants can't be stacked so you can only have 1 implant for each attribute at a time, and they get lost if someone shoots your POD (which will happen every chance they get).
IF your planning on being PvP orientated then you'll be after high attibutes in Perception and Willpower (these are for training gun based skills), and Intelegence and memory (these are for you enginering and electronic skills, important to make your ship faster / stronger etc...)
Charisma is on the whole not going to be much use for you, so get it as low as possible, this is the one that is used for Social skills, not something your going to need when shooting people.
I'd advise you join the Help chanel in game and ask any questons you have. Also, joining a player corp, such as Eve Uni would be a great benefit, as doing is by far the best way to learn.

Don't expect this politeness to last very long, these forums are a toilet at the best of times. Whines, trolls and flames make up 95% of the content in General Discussion threads.
Infact my responce turned into one such example, BRAVO!!!

Edited by: General StarScream on 30/10/2007 11:40:27 i would go with intel/pre/mem/wil/char for combat,
allso i would start with gallante or caldri, as those 2 races are better for the start.
to make isk, but amarr and min are far better in the long run, but mutch mutch harder to use for all the roles. Sig Removed. Dont use inappropriate language in sigs -Kaemonn |

Gallente ships are the way to go if you want pvp... I like them cause of the drone bonuses...
Any how, find a corp to join and just have fun. You will have much more fun flying with a group of people imho.

Edited by: Raife Zetter on 30/10/2007 23:38:08 The best thing I ever did when I started (and I'm still a noob) was
read all the noob guides! Then read the guides about what your interested in! hell, then read some more.
then
Make sure you do the tutorial all the way through.
Then
dont buy stuff willy nilly. If you want to buy something to try it out read the info and check the skill requirements. You will save a ton of cash if you do this to start with.

Not QFT.
Fly what you feel comfortable in. Almost every ship can be fit for PvP, they simply require a different approach.

I just started myself yesterday.
I have to complement the forum for the great tips and lack of flaming. It's not my first MMO to be sure, and EVE players seem to be actually quite helpful on the whole (out of game at least ).
I also would like to congratulate the Devs for not going the route of all the other MMO's and dumbing the game down for n00bz in order to sell out for more subscribers. It's obviously a complicated and immersive game which requires quick wits and dare I say it? A calculator...to be successful at.
On that note, I'm almost scared to blow money on too much beefing of a ship or things like implants as I'm fairly certain I'm going to get podded over and over and over until I get my space-legs.
Assuming (after I'm all broken in) I'm an average player who adopts a moderate risk playstyle, how often should I expect to lose ships?

The more time you spend in low sec or 0.0, the more chances are that you will lose a ship.
Never fly what you cannot replace. ------------------------------------------------ All is not lost, I have a ship and I'm a man! |
