I am a relatively new player (ok, very new). I am at about 1.1million sp. Most of those skill points are in learning skills. I have the core learning skills to 5. And I am approaching skill lvl 4 on the next set of learning skills. My question is, should they be trained to level 5? Or is 4 good enough? Thanks all.

4 will do, certainly until you've got some more directly useful skills trained.
Consider training some of the learning skills to 5 once you know exactly where you'll be going and can calculate whether or not it would be beneficial.

All basic learning skills to lvl 5 takes one year to 'pay off' though you will notice the decreased times almost immediatly. All advanced learning skills to 5 takes 3 years to 'pay off', so i would stick to 4 there.
Bettere to get a nice clone with +3 or +4 implants to speed things up.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I loathed the idea of training to 5 on the advanced learning... I just want to get to wanted to get fighting!

allready the +1 implants give you the sam stats you would have if you had trained advanced learning to lvl5.i would only recommend training those on very dedicated alts and only if you know you will stick to the game a very long time!

Very good guide HERE.
When I started out not too long ago I followed this guide. Some learning skills I trained to 5. Most I trained to 4. It's a bit of a read, but invaluable information.

took all base skills and all advanced skills to 4. At some point, when I have spare training time (hahaha!) I will start getting them to 5, but has not been profitable yet. Evemon will tell you if you will save REAL time by training a learning skill, so I normally go by that.

really you need to decide right off the bat if it's going to be beneficial to you. "waiting to find out" only means that the longer you wait to train to 5 the LESS and LESS beneficial doing so will be. i think learning skills are a cancer on EVE's skill system / gameplay, but that's just my opinion. i've got basics & advanced to 4 (except charisma) any more would be too much a waste of time that i could be actually advancing my gameplay :).

In general, what you should do FIRST of all, is get other skills up so you can enjoy the game.
I realise you already got the basic skills up, but other new players might read this.
A new player should train 2-3 levels of the basic learning skills at MAX, and then learn to fly at least a cruiser or battlecruiser and get the main associated skills (weapons/engineering/electronics/mechanic/navigation etc.) to level 3 too.
This'll enable that player to learn the game and enjoy it before making a decision whether to subscribe or not.
Once a player has decided to play for a longer period, THAT's the point in time where he should start going for the learning skills in earnest.
The MAIN bad advice given to new players by older players is: "Oh, start training your learning skills before you do anything else!"
Learning skills are important for a long-time player, but NOT AT ALL important for a new player investigating whether he likes the game.
This piece of advice has probably chased more people from EVE than anything else.....

BTW, kudos on your patience and dedication. Many new players don't want to 'waste' the time to do the learning skills fully first.

Level four of the advanced is fine. As others have said, implants are very cheap so get some +1's for peanuts if you really want to make up the points quickly. It's not a big stretch to +3's after you've sorted yourself some income.
